sury and Federal reserve board
should boost bank supplies of lend-
able money to the billion-dollar
mark by October, officials said to-
day.
Secretary Morgenthau threw into
operation his part of the two-way,
low-interest credit program yester-
day, freeing $300,000,000 of gold from
the treasury's hitherto-unused "ster-
ilized" account.
Certificates against the gold, Mor-
genthau said, were issued to Fed-
eral Reserve Banks which credit-
ed the treasury with $300,000,000 of
deposits. The ’ treasury chief said
the deposits will be withdrawn to
meet general treasury obligations
and to retire $50,000,000 discount bill
issues maturing weekly
This operation, he said, will speed
a stream of cash into the nation's
banking structure, hiking the sup-
ply of lendable money.

where he stayed three days before
coming to Denton, arriving Sun-
day. The contrast with the "old-
ness" of the towns to Europe, the
fact that they had been there for
centuries and looked it. with the
sparkling whiteness—the cleanliness
—of the capital city, made the visit

tour, Neale said. He also visited the
Naval Academy at Annapolis on
the opening day for the fall term,
and got a thrill out of watching
the cadets drill in full-dress uni-
form.
Neale sailed from New York City
July 23 with a party of 52 dele-
gatee to attend the Baptist World
Youth Conference in Zurich, Switz-
erland, Aug. 1 to 11. About 1,500
representatives from all over the
world attended the congress. Neale
said. They visited in England, Hol-
land, France, Germany, Swtizer-
land, Italy, Austria and Czechoslo-
vakia. ----—
