The regular meeting of St.
Joseph’s Assembly, Fourth De-
gree, Knights of Columbus was
held on Monday evening, Oct-
ober 24 in the Sts. Peter and
Paul Parish Center in Bellville.
Father Floyd Biel of Brenham,
assistant friar, gave the open-
ing prayer. The salute to the
flag was given. Faithful Navi-
gator Abner Jackson presided
at the business session.
Father Biel spoke briefly
and gave several ideas on im-
proving activities in the as-
sembly. He also thanked all
the past officers for their co-
operation and congratulated
the new officers and wished
them well in their future work.
Sir Jackson reminded the
members of the officers meet-
ing called by the new master
of District 7 (Austin Diocese),
Col. Walter Parsons of Brvan.
The meeting to "be held in Cam-
eron on Sunday, October 30.
Father Biel closed the meet-
ing with a prayer.
A social hour and refresh-
ments followed the meeting.

groomsmen were Wilfred Rej-
sek of East Bernard, Edwin
Janik of East Bernard, Mal-
colm Zurek of Wallis, and Lar-
ry Ray Marek of East Bernard.
Ushers were Lawrence Hol-
ecek of College Station, Syl-
Viaclovsky of San Antonio,
and Andrew Ressler of East
Bernard. Joe E. Hinze of Sea-
ly and John J. Szymanski of
East Bernard were witnesses.
The bride’s mother wore a
mauve silk dress with lace
jacket, matching accessories
and a white orchid corsage.
The mother of the groom wore
a grass green lace dress, mat-
ching accessories and a white
orchid corsage.
At the reception, held at the
Wallis Legion Hall, Mrs. Joe
E. Hinze of Sealy, sister of the
bride, registered the guests.
The wedding cake was a
four tier white creation of ros-
es topped with a floral ar-
rangement of roses. carnations
and stephanotis. The cake was
centered amid the bridesmaids
bouquets and silver candle
holders.
Miss Maxine Hinze of Sealy
and Miss Charlene Smesny of
Houston presided over thesil-
ver coffee service and the
groom’s cake, which was a
chocolate cake decorated with
white roses. Presiding over the
wedding cake were Mrs. Ray-
mond Hennecke of East Ber-
nard. Mrs. Luther Perkins of
Katy and Mrs. Joe E. Hinze of
Sealy.
When Mr. and Mrs. Szyman-
swi left for their wedding trip
to Mexico, she was wearing a
three-piece rose silk suit,
brown accessories, and the or-
chid corsage from her bridal
bovouet.
The bride is a graduate of
Wharton Junior College and
Bellaire Beauty College, and
owns shop in Wallis. The
groom attended Wharton Jun-
ior College and University of
Houston. He is a lab technicial
at W-K-M.
Mr. and Mrs. Szymanski are
makine their home in Wallis.
REHEARSAL SUPPER
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Szymanski
of East Bernard were hosts
for the rehearsal supper hon-
oring their son, Jodie, and his
bride-elect. Miss Jeraldine Zu-
rek on Friday, October 21. The
event was held at Alan’s Rest-
aurant in East Bernard.
A delicious shrimp supper
was served from tables decor-
ated with pink flowers and
bridal decorations.
Those present were members
of the wedding party, parents
of the betrothed couple. and
Msgr. A. W. Nesvadba of Wal-
lis.

Kindergarten Have
Learn and Fay
Party October 28
The pupils of the Learn and
Play Kindergarten had an en-
joyable time on Friday, Oct-
ober 28 when their teacher,
Mrs. Presley Ward Hahn hon-
ored them with a party. Every-
thing was in keeping with the
Hallowe'en theme, decorations,
party favors and refreshments.
Before they left for their
homes each child was given a
treat and trick bag, jack o’lan-
terns filled with candies, bub-
ble gum, and candies.
Mrs. Hahn was assisted by
Miss Ruby Cooper and Mrs.
Helen Powers.
Children attending the par-
ty were Lisa Bates, Cheryl
Crabb. Marcus Gomez, Jesse
Henderson, Jeffery Justice,

40 Years Ago in November
On Nov. 9, 1926. Miss Veron-
ica Saha and Eddie Zapalac
were married in Sealy Catholic
church. The wedding music was
furnished by Moonlight orches-
tra of Frydek. On the same day
in Frydek Catholic church. Miss
Louise Skarpa and Ludwig
Smesny were married.
35 Years Ago in November
On Nov. 1, 1931, a baby
daughter was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Hruby and was
named Dorothy. She died after
a short time. On Nov. 10, Miss
Mary Cervenka and Louis Ond-
ruch were married in Frydek
Catholic church.

Vacuum Station in Carport in Rear
hearsing for and presenting
its shows during half-time of
all football games. Besides
this, the band traveled to Bell-
ville tn march in the Austin
County Fair Parade.
On Saturday, October 29,
the band went to the Astro-
dome in Houston, to partici-
pate in the 11th Annual Band
Dav festivities. The Tiger
band and 140 other Houston
area bands put on a tremen-
dous show at the half of the
Houston vs. Tampa football
game.
A number of the band mem-
bees arc now practicing dili-
gently to secure a chair in the
area's district band. Tryouts
will be held in Texas City.
Another event on the minds
of all bandsters is marching
contest, which will be held on
November 19 in El Campo.
Miss Jeraldine Ann Zurek,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jul-
ius E. Zurek of Wallis, and Jo-
die Anthony Szymanski, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Szymanski of
East Bernard confirmed their
vows at Guardian Angel Cath-
olic Church in Wallis on Oct-
ober 23, at 12:30 o'clock in the
afternoon.
Msgr. A. W. Nesvadba con-
ducted the 2 ring ceremony
and Rev. Alex Lazek read the
nuptial mass. The East Ber-
nard Choir sang.
Arrangements of pink car-
nations, roses, gladioli and
greenery decorated the altar.
Entering on the arm of her
father, the bride wore a for-
mal gown of candlelight peau
de soie. The molded bodice,
veiled in appliqued Alencon
lace encrusted in pearls, was
fashioned with a low portrait
neckline. The long sleeves tap-
ered to petal points. The A-
linc skirt embellished by a
band of lace encircling the bot-
tom edge, had a detachable
chapel train. Her exquisite
mantilla veil of silk illusion
was enhanced by a deep bor-
der of appliqued lace dotted in
pearls. She carried a bouauet
of three white orchids, stepha-
notis and greenery entwined
with ivory ribbon. The bride
wore the traditional something
old, new. borrowed and blue.
Around her neck she wore a
diamond drop, a gift of the
groom.
Mrs. Don Demny of Houston
served as matron of honor.
Bricsmaids were Mrs. Wil-
fred Rejeek of East Bernard,
Miss Lucille Vitek of Navaso-
ta, Miss Sandra Norville of
Katy, and Miss Theresa Zurek
of Wallis, junior bridesmaid.
They wore formal length
gowns of pale nink peau de
soie featuring A-line skirts and
empire bodices of heavy pink
lace over grass green hands of
velveteen ribbons. Their head-
pieces were peau de soie roses
attached to bouffant butterfly
nets. They wore dyed to match
shoes, white kid gloves, and
each had a strand of pearls, a
gift from the bride. They car-
ried nosegays of pink carna-
tions, roses, and grass green
velveteen ribbons which were
for cold weather so they could
“show off” their new jackets.
Although the weather wasn't
exactly fitting, one could see
many new black and gold jack-
ets on campus, anyway.
As delegate from the Austin
County Unit, Mrs. Billie Preib-
isch of our faculty, attended
the annual state convention of
the Texas State Teachers As-
sociation that was held in Aus-
tin, November 3-5.
Saturday, the twirlers went
to Louise for the annual U. I.
L. twirling contest. Linda
Nentwig, Janis Garling, Candy
Koy, Rose Tomlinson, Nethia
Hintz and Joan Klatt brought
home 8 medals out of a poss-
ible 12. Congratulations to the
twirlers!
Monday was the third meet-
ing of the F. H. A. club and
also the deadline for anyone to
bring in non-perishable goods
that they’re sending to Viet
Nam. The girls have also de-
cided to go Christmas caroling
at the Azalea Manor this vear.
At the meeting, the officers
made their first appearance in
their new "uniforms” that
each officer made. The officers
made these uniforms with the
plans of wearing them to each
meeting and to the annual area
F. H. A. meeting in Houston.
