and their community. The USA
Los Angeles Games ’85 must rely
wholly on the generosity of the
American public to secure the
funds needed for training,
transportation, and housing these
athletes. Previous experience has
shown that these funds are best
raised in and around the home
community. In many countries
participation in the World Games
for the Deaf is so highly regarded
that the expense is borne by the
government. In the United States,
however, the sports loving public
finances the team on a purely
democratic basis, free from
government control. All neces-
sary funds are raised through tax
deductible contributions from
people like you.

track team had an outstanding
year, winning their own meet here
and placing high in three others.
The young Tiger tracksters also
captured second place in the
district meet which was held at
Royal.
All of the team members
contributed to the point totals in
each meet, however there were a
few young men who reached for
the gold and won it.
John Palmer blitzed the 100
meter field in all four meets to
pick up first place ribbons.
Long-runner, Dickey Pate, paced
his way to three victories in the
3200 meter this year to earn his
recognition. The exciting, action
packed 400 meter relay race was
won by the Tigers at the district
meet. Speed demons, Chris
Gilbert, Ricky Stancik, Dickey
Pate, Matt Sodolak and John
Palmer made up the champion
team.
Not only were the Tigers:
successful in the sprints, but the
ironmen showed their skills as
well. Ricky Stancik picked up a
first place this year in the shot,;
and Michael Svec also claimed a
first place finish in this event/
Sveck also proved he could fling a:
disc, winning a first place ribbon
this season.
Others who contributed to a
fine season with their great efforts;
are Tony Finch, Jason Wenzel,
Stephen Wilson, Joel Carr,’
Joshua Clover, Larry Virnau,;
Chad Kopec, Eric Schavrda,
Aaron Fmka, and Troy Ashom. •

Central Texas Amateur league
play with a 13-to-4 victory over
the Bernardo Bears at New Ulm
Sunday afternoon. The league
opener was played the afternoon
of the annual New Ulm Volunteer
Fire Department fish fry. A very
good crowd attended the fish fry
and the game.
Tim Herman went the full nine
innings on the hill for New Ulm.
Two of the Bernardo runs were
earned as Herman scattered three
hits, walked four and struck out
nine.
Meanwhile his New Ulm
teammates battered out nine base
hits, including a two run homer
by Steve Zapalac and an
off-the-wall double by Steve
Cerny. Stephen Reichardt led the
offense with a two for four effort.
Herman aided his case with a solo
homer himself.
Other firemen getting hits were
Melvin Cerny, Pat Walton, David
Cerny, and Jim Havel.
The next home game for New
Ulm will be Sunday, May 19.
