Today's philosophy of having your
cake and eating it too, which is grad-
ually leading the country into a jungle
of irreconcilable conflicts, is once again
illustrated in two AP dispatches from
Washington. One tells of the progress in
Congress of a vastly expanded anti-
poverty program totaling some S5.3 bil-
lion. The other dispatch says, "Business
economists predict that big federal def-
icits and easy money will thwart Pres-
ident Nixon’s effort to reduce inflation
to a 2 to 3 percent rate this year.” The
industry experts anticipate a growth of
inflation in the next year averaging 3

NOTES AND COMMENTS
Think defensively when you’re
driving your car. Yield if there’s any
question about the right-of-way and
don't let people get too close either
front or rear.. The aggressive compet-
itor is not a defensive driver.

The cake-eaters desire economic
controls until the controls begin to
pinch. They desire government insur-
ance against the uncertainties of supply
and demand, but they want no im-
pairment of freedom. Above all, they
want all of the ammenities, convenien-
ces and abundance while freezing into
immobility the system that has pro-
duced these things. Like eating your
cake and having it too, they ask the im-
possible. In the cruel coin of inflation,
we will all pay the price of their folly.

EASTER SUNDAY " -
It is the time to color those Easter eggs again. The h 1c •,
new Spring season will usher in Easter Sunday on .h
April 2 this year. Once again, Christians will com- s \
