AN ACT
TO LEVY TAXES
Section 1. Hr it enartrd by the l rgmlalorr nf
thr Stair of rrran. That there shall be levied and
collerted, for the um and support of the State, on
al! property. real and pernotal, a direct ad v alo
rem tax of one third of one per centum, on the
tirst day of January, 1871, and on that day iu ev
• ry year therrafter. ।
Sec. > That there ahull be levied on and col-
lertrd from every male person above twenty one
j ear* of agn, resident within this State, on the
tirat day of January next, and on that day in ev-
ery year thereafter (Indian* not taxed, and per-
sons non eompos mrntu and idiotn excepted, an
annual capitation tax of one dollar each.
Sec.. That there shall Be levied on and col
let ted from every railroad, insuranee or telegraph
company, doing businesn within this state, an an-
nual tax of two per cunt, upon the gross reeeipta
of the Maine.
