While "hard times" is the cry all over
the country, ami stagnation in growth
characterises many towns throughout the
State, there is no hesitation in the onward
march of Austin, and, from present indiea-
tius, we think it safe to prediet that our
little city w ill double its present popnlation
in three year's time. We learn from Pref.
J. Larmour, architect, of three fine buildings
that will be erected within the next few
weeks, the drafts being now prepared by
Mr. Larmonr.
Ms. Newman will erect on the burn* site
opposite Sampson A Henri k*. a tv. <» story
brick building. 70 feet deep.with three stores
in front and one in the war, fronting the
postoftice. The eost of this building will be
about $5000, and in appearance it will be
similar to Miller’s building, occupiee by Mr.
Irneggerhoff.
2. t. R. Johns, the banker, will eret an
elegant brick residence, with iron trim-
mings, on the old Ward site west of the
market, the cost of which will be about 812.-
tn", aud the architecture of which will be a
ereilit te Mr. Johns, tl ar hiteet and the
city of Austin.
3. R. R. Robertson, Esq., will erect a
80001 frame residence on the old Bremond
residence block. In addition to thene, there
are at least one hundred bujlings goling up
in this city, the cost of which will range
from $*00 to $2500, to say nothing of anum-
ber of busimess buildings now in process of
erection, which we have previously epoken or.
