the “people” elected a judge “for the people” instead
of one being appointed by Austin for the lawyers.
Judge Lindsey is eligible for retirement at *12,500 a
year whether he is defeated or not. (If he retires
while in office, Austin will again appoint a successor..
This system has prevented us from electing a district
judge for abqut 30 years.) Judge Lindsey will still
qualify for retirement and can still assist Dallas County
in their courts for extra money as he has for several )
years'during the time he was absent from his own
district. ■ z
