Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Lundgren

Mr. and Mrs. Henderson Brock
of Hamilton, Ohio were greeting
old Elgin friends over the week-
end and this week. They were

in Austin Sunday and Monday.
We are sorry to report that
Mrs. Sydney Munson is a patient
at Fleming Hospital, where she
has undergone a major operation.
We hope that she will have a
speedy recovery and that she will
be up and about soon.
Bible Classes Meet
Rev. and Mrs. Almquist opened
their home to the members of the
Adult Bible classes last Thursday
night. The women met at the
parsonage and the men were at the
hall where each class held their
respective business meetings. Af-
ter the business meeting the wo-
men were invited to come to the
hall where Rav. J. M. Lanmon dem-
onstrated the projector and show-
ed a film “Paul on the Road to
Damascus.” After the film was
shown the entire group were serv-
ed coffee, coffee-bread and cook-
ies at the parsonage. As a plate
favor, each received a valentine.
We wish to express to Rev. and
Mrs. Almquist a hetrty thanks for
this pleasant evening and also
for all the work they do as teach-
ers of the men and women’s Bible
classes.
Birthday Celebrated
Saturday Night
A group of New Sweden folks
went to Austin to celebrate Mr.
Harry Palmer’s birthday. The
evening was spent playing dom-
inoes and visiting in this hospi-
table home. Refreshments were
brought along and served, which
consisted of sandwiches, olives,
potato chips, cookies, cake, "ost-
kaka” and coffee. Those from
our community who enjoyed this
party were Messrs and Mesdames
Ernest Bragg, Earland Bragg,
Henry Munson, S. A. Munson, Lee
Weldon Munson, Phillip Olson and
family, Mrs. Nora Larson, Mrs.

ELM GROVE, Feb. 4—During
the past week folks out this way
have been quite busy, burning
brush, breaking land, cutting
wood, fixing fences, and looking
forward towards another crop.
Mrs. Parks Wilson visited with
Miss Myrtle Walker Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Self and
family came in from Houston
Monday afternoon, having spent
several days in the city.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wolf visit-
ed with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Clark and family Sunday.
Mr. Elmer Turnipseed and son,
Larry, of Houston, visited home-
folks during the week.
Those visiting at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Turnipseed
Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Har-
old Turnipseed of McDade, Mr.
and Mrs. Rufus Daughtry and son,
Mrs. Parks Wilson, Mrs. B. Wilson,
Miss Marie Helms and Mr. Grady
Edwards.
Miss Dorothy Turnipseed and
Buddy Turnipseed of Taylor spent
the week-end with homefolks.
Mrs. Parks Wilson visited with
Miss Eula Borum of the Mt. Pleas-
ant Community Thursday.
Mr. Arbie Cornell of Coupland
spent the day Wednesday with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cor-
nell.
Miss Maurisse Evans of Austin
visited her parents Thursday.
Mr. P. A. Helms and son, J. V.,
were business visitors in Yoakum
and Hallettsville Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Wilson of Aus-
tin are now residents of this com-
munity.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Wilson, Mr. and
Mrs. Parks Wilson were Taylor
visitors today (Monday).
Waverly Helms, senior in Elgin
Hi, spent his birthday, February
3rd, at school. A classmate also
had a birthday today, so between
them, made a day of it. Here’s

ill and a patient in Wedemeyer
hospital in Taylor for several days
has returned home and is conval-
escing nicely, we are happy to re-

Mrs. Adeline Pate, of Bartlett,
was the yeek-end visitor of Mrs.
J. R. Turner.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lundgren
had as spend-the-day guests Sun-
day Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Olson and
LaRue, of Austin.
We are requested to save all
waste paper for a Paper Drive
coming up. Get your newspapers
and magazjnes gathered and tied
securely in packages right away,
so they will be ready when the
school children call at your home
to pick them up.
Saturday afternoon guests hav-
ing lunch with Mr. and Mrs. J. O.
Smothers were Mrs. Carl Rolf
of New Sweden community, Mrs
Theo Morell and Mrs. W as-
ley Morell. On Friday they enjoy-
ed having Mr. and Mrs. Carl John-
son of Manda visit them.
Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Laughlin,
Mr. Dindy Berg of Houston visit-
ed relatives Saturday and Sunday
in Georgetown, Austin and Type,
returning home Sunday evening.
Mrs. Paul Lundgren was in Se-
guin Tuesday, accompanying her
son Paul Granville who returned
to TLC following a visit here be-
tween semesters.
Mrs. L. R. Carter was reported
on the sick list early in the week.
Friends wish her a speedy recov-
ery.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Foehner have
purchased the W. H. Carter home-
place from Mrs. Carter and will
move there in the near future.
Mrs. C, W. Ramsey and Mr. Ar-
lace Ramsey of Carlsbad, New
Mexico were week-end guests of
their son and brother, Mr. Charles
O. Ramsey, and Mrs. Ramsey. They
were accompanied home by Mrs.
Arlace Ramsey who had been here
the past week as the Ramsey’s
houseguest, while convalescing
from a recent operation she un-
derwent in Scott and White hos-
pital, in Temple,
Mrs. Chas. J. Poth has returned
to her home from Fleming hospi-
tal and is reported as doing nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Sanders of
Houston are announcing the birth
of a baby daughter, Gwynn Ellen,
born at 2:00 a. m. Monday, Feb-
ruary 3rd. The proud grandpar-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. W. R. San-
ders of Elgin. Mrs. Sanders is
the former Shirley Hale of Wax-
ahachie, Texas.
The Rev. Ernest Johnson of
Loomis, Nebraska was a pleasant
caller in the Courier Office Mon-
day morning. Rev. Johnson and
wife are in Texas to visit rela-
tives and have been kept busy re-
newing old friendships every place
they stop. Mrs. Eli Aronson, El-
gin is their daughter.
Mr. John Scott, 78, who has
been ill since Christmas is report-
ed as able to be up now and get-
ting along ‘just fine.’
Mesdames Irene Brown and
Ila Dannelley and Miss Nell Owens
met Mrs. Clara Breeding in Bas-
Mrs. T. O. Purcell was an Aus-
tin visitor Wednesday.
Mrs. William Wesson, Mrs.
Maurice Davis, Miss Mamie Ruth
Wesson and Mrs. Sam Burnett all
of Austin and Mrs. Robert Shafer
of West Alexandria, Ohio (the
former Cleo Nell Wesson) were
spend-the-day guests Monday of
Mr. and Mrs. Noel Branton and
in the afternoon visited in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ozie Brown.
Mr. and Mrs. Bedford Scales
left Wednesday for Houston,
where he will attend a several
days Tractor School,
Mrs. Ernest Brandt has purchas-
ed the homeplace of Mrs. Bess
Houston on North 7th street and
will move there this weekend. Mrs
Houston left today for Austin,
where she will make her home for
the present.

and sons attended the Houston
Stock Show Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. James Sellstrom
and Kenneth Larry of Austin at-
tended services Sunday morning
and were guests in the Paul Lund-
gren home in Elgin for dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. George Magnuson
and sons were supper guests in
Elgin in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Lundgren Wednesday
' night.
Rev. and Mrs. Almquist attend-

week-end in San Antonio visiting
in the home of her daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ridings,
and also visited her granddaughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. D.
Boswell and children at Marion.
Friends of Sydney Sanderson
will be interested to know that he
and his father, Mr. Wm. E. Sand-
erson, are now residing in Ft.
Worth where Sydney is employed
at Monnig’s Dry Goods store.
The Sandersons are former Elgin
residents and have a number of
friends here.
J. R. Turner was a week-end
business visitor in Houston, re-
turning Monday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. James Robertson
of Prewitt, are announcing the
arrival of a lovely little 7% pound
daughter, born February 1st at
Fleming hospital. The little lady
has been given the name Juanita
Sue.
The Rev. and Mrs. Robert Farm-
er and daughter, Miss Helen, Mr.
Elbert Simpson, all of Austin, Mr.
and Mrs. Sid Cartwright, Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Cannon and sons, David
• Wood, Houston, were week-end
visitors to Elgin, guests of their
grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. W. E.
Wood. .

of Austin, prominently known
throughout this section, are spend-
ing a while in the Dr. Torbitt
Clinic in Marlin to rest and are
