Manor Correspondent
Stricken Ill Sunday
Mrs. Luther Johnson, The Cour-
ier’s popular correspondent from
Manor is ill this week and under
doctor’s care, attended by her
daughter, Bobbie J.
Mrs. Johnson ws taken sud-
denly ill with hemorrhage caused
from ulcerated stomach on Sun-
day morning while getting ready
to go to church. A doctor was
called and she was in a coma all
day. She was some better last re-
port.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Smothers
vsited Sunday with their cousins,
Mr. and Mrs. Vanner Wunerburg-
er in Paige and while there went
Wednesday afternoon Mrs, Fan-
nie Fisher celebrated her 68th
birthday quietly at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Gillum,
where she is confined to her bed.
Among friends who remembered
her were members of the Baptist
WMS who presented her a potted
poinsettia, the traditional Christ-
mas flower.

Judge and Mrs. John L. Dan-
nelley were present at the Scot-
j tish Rite Cathedral in Austin last

Schwartz, formerly of Elgin, de-

her official visit to the Travis
Chapter.
Mrs. .Kittie Henderson and Miss
Nell Owens were Austin visitors
Saturday.
Mrs. J. I. Parnell had as her
guests Thursday Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Smith of Boguchitto
Miss. They were enroute to San
Antonio to be with their son, Ma-
jor Smith at Fort Sam Houston.
They also planned to visit Mr.
Parnell, Mrs. Smith’s uncle, at
WOW Hospital while there.
Mr. and Mrs N. R. Radtke spent
several days last week in Kermit,
guests of their son and wife, Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Radtke. While
there they enjoyed a trip to Carls-
bad, N. M. where they went
through the historic cavern.
Mrs. Herman Felder, Mr. Gus
Heine and Mr. Henry Hees, of
Austin, motored to the Rio
Grande Valley Friday to spend
the week-end. They visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hees and
family, and also visited many oth-
er points of interest.

Mrs. W. H. Rivers visited sever-
al days last week with her sister,
Mrs. Lawrence Buaas.
I your children, especially the
boys haven’t had an opportunity
to see the big Diesel locomotives
which the Katy is now using to pull
their long, fast freight trains,
bring them into town during the
holidays for a look-see as they
whiz thru town. In their red and
white finish they resemble huge
toy Christmas trains come to life
and will delight and intrigue your
little boy.
Mr. Henry Christensen returned
to his home Saturday after being
a patient in Fleming Hospital,
and is able to be out and about
some.
The Lions Club is sponsoring a
visit by Santa Claus to the homes
of Elgin’s underprivileged so all
the children may enjoy Christi
mas.
Mesdames Fred Creppon, Jr.
Leslie Fisher, Sr., Miss Nell
Owens and Katherine Kastner
attended a miscellaneous shower
in McDade Saturday night
honoring Miss Elwanda Holt, for
which Mrs. Alfred Kastner and
daughters, Mary Evelyn and Hilda
were hostesses.
Mrs. George M. Allen, of Vic-
toria will arrive Friday for a few
days visit with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Carter-

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Threadgill of
Robstown came up Saturday and
were overnight guests of her sis-
ter, Mrs. M. H. Holland and fam-
ily. They were enroute to Wash-
ington, D. C. to visit Mrs. Thread-
gill’s daughter and husband, Lt.
Com. and Mrs. L. E. Forkner and
young son, Larry.
Mrs. I. T. Dannelley has return-
ed home from a month’s visit in
South Texas and was accompanied
by Mrs. Roy Yaeger, of Hebron-
ville and Mrs. A. O. Dannelley of
Mirando City, who remained for
a short visit, returning to their
homes Wednesday.
Mrs. Leslie Porcher returned to
her home in Dallas Friday, folow-
ing a weeks visit with her mother,
Mrs. I. T. Dannelley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chernoff
who have been visiting her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Sandgar-
ten, the past two weeks,'left Fri-
day for their home in Philadelphia,
Pa.
