No. 2176 Chapter 254 1 AN ACT 2 relating to a parenting and paternity awareness component of the 3 high school health curriculum. 4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 5 SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by 6 adding Subsection (p) to read as follows: 7 (p) The State Board of Education, in conjunction with the 8 office of the attorney general, shall develop a parenting and 9 paternity awareness program that a school district shall use in the 10 district's high school health curriculum. The program must: 11 (1) address parenting skills and responsibilities, 12 Including child support and other legal rights and responsibilities 13 that come with parenthood; 14 (2) address relationship skills, including money 15 management, communication skills, and marriage preparation; and 16 (3) in district high schools that do not have a family 17 violence prevention program, address skills relating to the 18 prevention of family violence. 19 SECTION 2. (a) Not later than May 1, 2008, the State Board 20 of Education shall develop a parenting and paternity awareness 21 program as provided by Section 28.002(p), Education Code, as added 22 by this Act. 23 (b) A school district shall use the parenting and paternity 24 awareness program developed by the State Board of Education as
