Pay your Poll Tax! There willg
lots of politics this coming year.’
Herald and Wall
members have purchased Poll Tax
in our office and unless the others
have secured theirs at other places
we are going to have a lot of
members unable to exercise their
desires during the rest of the year.
Next Saturday is the last day to
secure them. Also, I assume that
those of you that have yours are
glad that this is the last time
that we will have of bringing up
the matter. We just can’t keep
from dreaming about what the
members of labor and their fam-
ilies could do with the 50,000 votes
that they could have if they once
rwahrAd the importanceof it and
acted accordingly.
We have received a good re-

some better.
The Dallas AFL-CIO Council is
planning a Seminar the latter part
of March. This will be a two-
day-and-night deal. As chairman
of this committee, I certainly hope
that we will make it as good as
we made the Statler-Hilton two
years ago.
The month of February will be
a very busy month. We will have
a State COPE meeting and also
a regional COPE meeting.
Remember, it is two more days
to get your Poll Tax. There are
Gravesite funeral services were
held last Friday for Bro. F. L.
Stewart, in the Rawlins Ceme-
tary near Lancaster, Texas. Bro.
Stewart joined the union in 1936
and held continuous membership
since that date. He had been in
bad health for several years and
had lost contact with most of
the m&nbership. He was always
a loyal member and had the re-
spect and admiration of all of us
that were privileged to know him.
The past few weeks we have
been giving a weather report in
the column, always the same bad
weather and many of our members
not working. The same applies
this week with a few more mem-
bers out of work due to the inside
work beginning to catch up with
the delay in outside work. We
are still of the opinion that a few
days of good weather will enable
us to get most of our members
back working.

UNION N0.198, •

We don’t have much to report
this week. I am sorry to say that
we have quite a few men off from
work, due to the flu and the
weather.
We will have our office in the
Labor Temple open Saturday for
your last chance to get your 1960
Poll Taxes.
Be sure and come by if
you don’t have one. We will need
them. .
SERVE AND OLD FAVORITE
BREAD PUDDING
Winter’s the time for serving
some of the hearty old-time des-
serts that are rich with milk and
eggs and full of wholesome good-
ness. One of these—Bread Pud-
ding—is an excellent way to use
up ends of bread, too ! Add flaked
coconut, and a layer of jam or
jelly, top with a wonderful fluffy
meringue and it will be elegant
enough for a company dinner!
Coconut Bread Pudding Supreme
3 cups milk, scalded
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Remove from oven and spread
with jam or jelly. Beat 2 egg
whites until foamy throughout;
add 4 tablespoons sugar, 1 table-
spoon at a time, beating after
each addition until sugar is blend-
ed. Pile lightly on pudding, re-
turn to oven and bake 10 minutes.
Then, sphinkle with % cup flaked
coconut. Return to oven and bake
5 minutes longer, or until deli-
cately browned. Serve warm or
cold. Makes 6 servings.
However, we have a few that are
going to be out of benefits if they
do not get their dues in before
the end of the month. A few
that will be out of the union if
they do not get busy. Remember,
three months behind—out of in-
surance—six months and out of
the union.
Remember the endorsement
meeting will be held a week from
Sunday.
Remember February 1 is the
deadline for filing for precinct
chairman.
Bill Reinle is the champion
ticket salesman.
Ruth Herndon, our girl Friday,
is back from vacationing with
grandbaby.
I understand that John Anglund,
downtown Democratic chairman,
will make Luther Perry his second
assistant. Mrs. Lily Jackson is his
first. J. B. Cox is his right arm.

Last Thursday was our regular
meeting night and the most im-

I am very sorry to say we did
not have very many t attend this
meeting. Even the committee was
not all present.
Our next meeting will be Feb.

Those who do not have their
Poll Tax had best hurry. Satur-
day will be the last day.
Our apprenticeship committee
will meet Monday, February 1, at
the Apprentice School on North
Akard.
Our Blood Bank is doing a little
better. But it can stand a lot
more help to get up to par. So
please go by and register. A per-
son never knows when he will
need it.
We want to repeat that we have
moved into our new office on the
first floor of the Labor Temple.
We have not had any report on
sick members this week. Brothers
Ramsey and Merriman are back
on the job.
Work has held up well in this
weather.
Don’t forget your Poll Tax.
