Approximately fifteen months
ago the Cuero Turkey Trotters had
the privilege of saying they whip-
ped the Edna Cowboys in a base-
ball game. It was on June 5, 1938
that the Cuero nine was able to
turn the trick and the fracas was
played on the Cowboy diamond. On
top of that, the Trotters used a
makeshift ball club that had Eich-
holz at third base and regular third
sacker Churchill in the box. John
Fenner and Jess Ling toiled on the
mound for the losers.
Kielmen in a wild game—the first
of the year for both teams. On June
4th, they repeated with a 6 to 4
win when Lefty Martinek tired in
the late innings to let the Buds
overcome a fair lead and win the
game. June the 11th it was a differ-
ent story, for Martinek was right
as a fox' and scored a 4 to 3 win
over the visitors with Monroe

the ninth to send the winning run

This writer is glad to see anoth- j
er local golf tournament coming up!
Sunday. Not since January 22nd,!
has a match been staged here and ;
I we believe it will do a lot toward
stimulating more interest in the
sport Abolishment of the handicap j
idea and installing the Flight
system of play should also make the
tournament much more interesting
to players as well as spectators.
Fact that all golfers will have to
bear down all the way should re-
sult in some fine scores on the
twenty-seven holes of matched
play. There'll be no players turning
in sevens and eights on the last
couple of holes in order to finish
within two strokes of a handicap
and thus be eligible for a prize.
We believe every participant will
agree that the new method is
quite an improvement over the old
