Agricultural: workers in the
Cuero area today were urged not to
' go to California in search of work
; by C. J. Warner, Manager of the
I Yoakum Area office of the Texas
State Employment Service.
“To go with the mere hope of'
finding work there will result in
disappointment and hardships for
most migratory workers.” Mr
Warner said.
Agricultural workers entering
California increased from approxi-
i mately 2.000 in January to more
than 5,000 in June, according to
records of the United States Em-
ployment Service. The June total
represented an increase of more
than 1,600 over the corresponding
month of the previous year.
Because of the surplus of workers
that continues to exist in Califor-
nia, Texas workers who migrate
there in search of jobs that do not
exist are certain to find the trip to
be a costly and useless venture. Mr.
Warner pointed out.
