panels presented.
The Amarillo JAC won the prize
for the most first place panels.
They had many panels on display
and won five first-place ribbons.

America’s first manned orbital
flight. Carpenter piloted the three-
orbit Mercury-Atlas 7 (Aurora 7)
flight on May 24, 1962. During
this flight he reached a maximum
of 184 miles and attained an or-
bital velocity of 17,582 miles per
hour. He landed in the Atlantic
Ocean about 1,000 miles southeast
of Cape Kennedy, Florida. Flight
time was 4 hours 58 minutes and
47 seconds.
