The fact that these congress-

a broad popular complacency at

ful force in Hollywood. After a
decade of delving into the agen-
ty's actions, the government
slapped MCA with an antitrust
suit two weeks ago.
The government said MCA
had to break up the agency. The
company, which had since turn-
ed to television filming, was
planning to do so anyway The
Screen Actors Guild would no
longer let MCA be both agent
and producer Besides, commis-
sions amounted to only 10 per
cent of the annual take. -
The agency wing of MCA
brought in 98,443.677 last year,
so you can - understand the
scramble.
Two new agencies have
sprung up in the past week,
hastily formed by former MCA
employees. No doubt others will
follow. And all over town actors
are being wined, dined, gifted,
cajoled and flattered to get them
to join new and established
agencies
The MCA files in Beverly Hills
are being protected by armed
guards. Agents would give their
grandmothers for the client list,
which amounts to 1.409 names.

This was the exhuberant com-

rich remains of MCA. In this
race the properties are not

missions of movie stars.
And what agent wouldn't put
on some speed for 10 per cent of
Marlon Brando?
To comprehend the situation,
you've got to understand the
agency business, which takes
some understanding In the ear-

as they grew more important,
stars felt the need of a go-

Agencies were minor adjuncts
to the movies business until Jul-
