Although our Associated Press acccunt of Southwest
Conierence freshmar football’ games last week didn’t spell
out the touchdown-makers we kinds had a feeling Mike
Marshall figured in strengly on the Baylor Cubs 13-6 vic-
tory over TCU frosh ...
Marshall scored the Cubs first touchdown with a three-
yard blast up the middle following a 61-yard drive, sez a
Waco paper's story, . . and set up the winning score with
an 11-yard run that gave Baylor a first and goal from the
TCU 2-yard line . . „ Another Mike Marshall—this cne's
from Irving and plays quarterback—took the ball ovei
from there ...
The ex-Mount Pleasant High gridiron great according
to the statistics ran 12 times for 12 yards--tops for the
game . Irving’s MM ran 14 .times fcr 67 . . .
HAVING TWC Mike Marshalls on the same club and
both frequent runners has its problems . . . H. G. Marshall,
dad of the Mount Pleasant MM was at last week’s game and

Baylor’s amazing Cubs made a strong goal-line stand
in the first quarter and used the blazing speed, and power
, of a pair of Mike Marshalls to grind out their third straight
> victory of the season, a 13-6 decision over the previously un-
beaten TCU Wogs."
Mount Pleasant’s Marshall, as fans long will remember,
was quite a terror on defense in his high school days .
hey won’t be surprised to learn his defensive play was a
big factor in the Baylor successful goal line stand . . .
LOCAL FANS, who’ve got football fever next week,
when the Tigers have an open date Nov. 9 might want to
crank.up for the Cub-SMU Colt game in Dallas . . .
It’ll be at 2 pm. in SMU’s Ownby Stadium . . .
In addition to whipping TCU, the Cubs edged Texas 13-12
and nudged Texas A&M 10-7 . . . Five touchdown by the
Cub in what seems to be a highly successful season . . and
it makes the hometown chests stick out knowing a local
product has scored three of them . . .
THE TIGERS discovered it, Be nham suffered under it
local fans gobbled it up and this week’s foe also has learned
about the performance against Bonham
"Mount Pleasant could have beaten Texas University
the way they pdayed tonight,” Scout Ben Brocks was quoted
in the Sulphur Springs newspaper, following his scouting
trip here , . .
Head Coach Johnny Dobson was quoted, “I never like
to beat any team that badly," referring to the Wildcats' 67-4
mereiless lashing of tiny Huge, Okla.
The game didn’t prove much for Sulphur Springs . .
They turned loose two complete teams but still could gener-
al ly be stopped only when tripping over each other, says
Clarke Keys, Sulphur Springs sports editor.’
The Wildcats ran up a fantastic 607 yards tctal of-
fense—414 rushing and 193 passing said Keys.
. . But, the writer went on, the Wildcats made plenty nf
mistakes . . losing four fumbles, 70 yards in penalties and
missing blocking assignments that cost six losses . . .
