"Tile people should resolve not to
have another lawyer for governor,
and should be careful not to elect
too many lawyers to the legisla-

"I don’t mean that lawyers don't
have their place. They are neces-

newspapermen in the legislature,
it wouldn't be long till the news-

“The lawyers nave made it pos-

harvest each year. Every new law
is so worded that litigation can, and
will grow out of an attempt to in-
terpret it," he said.
"I will absolutely not run for gov-

no candidates announced in the
newspapers that I wish to support.
They are all lawyers, and pretty
obscure lawyers, at that,"he said.
"I don't want to support any of
them, but I may have to.” Davidson
declared,
The ideal status of the legislature
would be for slightly more than
half of the members to be from
some other profession or business
than law, the Houston capitalist
thinks. .
Davidson was lieutenant governor
and recalled that the lawmakers
used to word amendments to bills
in such a way that litigation could
not be avoided.
