TEMPERAMENT IS JI ST BAD
TEMPER, SAYS ACTOR
I Temperament in just a longer way of:
saying "temper," Pat O'Brien declared '
recently.
To the young actor, who stored a
' sensational succem in The Front j
i Page," the so called temperament one
encounters now and then among play-
•n of stage and screen is largely
uncontrolled stubbornness and child-
ishness.
O’Brien is playing in his first non
newspaperman" role in Paramount s
The Strange Case of Clara Deane,
being shown at the Franklin theatre
Saturday with Wynne Gibson. Fran-
ces Dee, Russell Gleason and Dudley
Digges in featured role*.
"I have an intense aversion to peo-
pie who cut a lot of distasteful capers
and then try to make themselves be-
Heve it is artistic temperament " he
says." In nine cases out of ten." it is
merely a rotten disposition.

A source of additional revenue to
the state would seem to be opened
up as a result of a ruling by Attor-
ney General Allred that river bed
rights granted to private parties, when
developed, are taxable.
‘If the rights and privileges grant
ed to the corporation amount to an
easement or an actual interest in the
land, it would seem that it comes i
within the definition of real estate
and is subject to taxation." the at-1
torney general’s opinion states.
The mere permit to impound ami
use water in a river is but a license. ।
Mr Allred ruled, but if possession is
taken of a liver bed, dams built and
waters impounded and actually used,
it would seem that there is more than .
a mere license.
Development of hydro-electric pow-
er is progressing in Texas. Dams and |
power plants have been constructed
in a number of rivers. and in the fu- |
lure there will la* many more The
Colorado River, in particular, offers
opportunity for this sort of develop- |
merit In the future, it is probable
that much of the power for Texas in- l
dustry will lie generated at hydro-1
electric plants along the rivers.

The crops around Shine were if-
fected materially in the narrow
stretch of Friday mornings storm
area. The corn was twisted, bent over
and broken off and in some instances
pulled up. Some grain heavily head-
ed was also ruined.
Generally peaking though. the lar-
ger part of the corn and feed crop
was benefitted to such an extent by
the rain that its productiveness will
overcome the shortage in the storm
area. Cotton was not hurt but at the
very best the colon crop is not so
promising.
Inserts are plentiful. It is stated
that in the storm area, the wind was
beneficial, in that it whipped the in-
sert infestation from the plants and
cotton is conceded to be in better
shape generally than previous to the
storm. Shiner Gazette.
