Almost every small city, town and
hamlet in Texas has the opportunity
to be chosen a secondary Centennial
mission and those points of interest
throughout Texas will be easily lo-
cated by the traveler. Markers at
convenient spots will direct attention
to these old landmarks.
The time is short. Every commu-
nity should begin now to make their
plan for designation on November 1.
Meetings to assure the full co-opera-
tion of all citizens should be held im-
mediately, the plan explained, and
historical spots placed in order, ready
to go.
Information desired by any commu-

The Texas Centennial in 1936 offers
the greatest opportunity ever pre-
sented the people of this state. It is
at once an opportunity to honor the
heroic founders of the common-
wealth. and attract to the state mil-
lions of visitors. Undoubtedly many
thousands of these will return to
make their permanent homes, assist
in the development of the state and
join those who are here in carrying it
forward to another hundred years of
glorious trilmphs.
South, where lack of moisture is caus-
ing hasty slaughter of cattle, a short-
age of truck crops and threatened
ruin for farmers.
Texas has been hard hit, with corn
destroyed and cotton seriously dam-
aged.
Out of it all we are learning an im-
portant lesson on agricultural econ-
omics. In the past few years of too
much corn, wheat and cotton, sur-
pluses have been called a curse. Ele-
vators bulged with wheat and prices
tumbled. Cotton overflowed ware-
houses in concentration points and all
