The Union Services for the
summer conducted by the Central
Christian, First Presbyterian and
Methodist Churches of Elgin on
the lawn of the Methodist Church,

met at the church Tuesday after-
noon at 4:00 o’clock for Business
and Community meeting with Mrs

After the opening song and
prayer Mrs. Dean Davis read the
minutes for the month of July.
Very interesting reports were
given by all chairman, the treas-
urer, corresponding sec’y., young
people, and gis, auxiliary, com-
munity, mission study, Biblestudy,
benevolence, stewardship. Each
chairman of the four circles also
gave reports for July.
Mrs. Dean Davis gave a report
on the' association meeting held in
Bastrop last Thursday night. Mrs.

on these missions relating how
the Pearl Bell Circle had helped
a colored Baptist Church by giv-
ing literature and Bibles, and
clothes to a needy Mexican fam-
ily, the mother of which is in the
hospital and urged members to
visit each shut in and hold devo-
tional service in each home in the
month of August.
The meeting closed with prayer.
Four members from Ann Jud-
son Circle were present; nine
from Pearl Bell; three from Eliza-
beth Poole; eight from Lottie
Moon.
Mr. and. Mrs. G. M. Allen of
Victoria were guests of Mr. R.
L. Carter. They were accompan-
ied home by Miss Nell Owens for
a week’s visit.

The wedding reception was held

ents. The house was decorated

ed with a handsome white linen
cloth brought over from Sweden
and held the three-tier white wed-
ding cake decorated in pink and
surmounted by a miniature bridal
couple, flanked by silver candel-
abra holding four white candles.
The bouquets of the bride and her
attendants were arranged in front
of the cake. Spritz cookies, cake
mints and fruit punch were serv-

accented with a white carnation
corsage. The bridegroom’s mother
chose a powder blue linen and
lace dress and also wore a white
carnation corsage.
When the couple left by car
for a tiwo-weeks honeymoon in
Colorado the bride wore a navy
faille dress, white accessories and
Parker, Mrs. Max Tamez and in-
fant daughter, Billy Truitt, Mrs.
W. D. House, Jr., Albert Meyer,
Abe Harden, Mrs. Charlie Hud-
son, Mrs. Clarence Fort.
Attend Intermediate
Youth Assembly
The following group of young
people from First Methodist
Church went to Kerrville Monday
of last week to attend Intermed-
iate Youth Assembly at Mount
Wesley: Jimmie Gibbons, Buddy
and Dickie Peterson, Jane Nich-
ols, Pattye Kiecke, Janice Burke,
Eleanor and Elaine Meier, Mary
Wayne Nairn, all of Elgin and
Janis Ann Carter of Bellaire. Pro-
viding cars to take them out
were the Horton Nairns, John
Nichols and J. A. Gibbons. The
Rev. George Mcrary drove out to
bring part of the group home,
Saturday, the remainder return-
ing via bus.
A very happy and interesting
week was experienced and all re-
turned home very much inspired.
Mrs Logan Sellers, Austin, was
a business visitor in Elgin Wed.,
guest in the Kirk Sellers home.
She was accompanied by Mr. J. S.
McKenzie, an uncle, 91 years
young. Mr. McKenzie enjoys
good health and tips the scales at
more than 200 pounds.
Miss Helen Mary Lou Johnson
and Bobby F. Ellison were mar-
ried Saturday evening, August 1,
in the Methodist Church of Manda
in a formal double-ring candle-
light ceremony read by the Rev.
J. F. Karling of Decker.
The altar was decorated with
palms, arrangements of white
gladioli and white candelabra in
which white tapers burned. Cand-
lelighters were Floyd Swanberg,
brother-in-law of the bride and
Howard Long, both of Austin.
Mrs. Ewald Lind, organist,
played a prelude of nuptial selec-
tions, the traditional wedding
marches and accompanied Smitty
Johnson, soloist, of Austin, who
sang “Because” and “The Lord’s
Prayer.”
The bride, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl L. Johnson of Manda, is
a graduate of Elgin High School.
She is now employed in the Texas
Automobile Insurance Service of-
fice in Austin.
Mr. Ellison is the son of Mrs.
Ora Ellison, 1142% Gunter Street.
He is a graduate of Austin High
(School where he lettered in foot-
ball and baseball three years. Re-
cently with White Furniture Com-
pany in Austin he is now under
contract with the Boston Red Sox.
Given in marriage by her fath-
er, the bride wore a gown of white
Chantilly lace over taffeta. The
molded bodice was designed with
a scalloped neckline and long
sleeves ending in petal points over
the hands. The graceful skirt was
bouffant and floor length.

Edward Fraim was also present
to witness the plighting of the
sacred vows.
The bride wore a lovely gray
nylon dress with white carnation
corsage and black patent accessor-
ies. Mrs. Helgren chose a navy
nylon accented with corsage of
white carnations and white acces-
sories.
Following the wedding refresh-
ments of cake and fruit punch
were served from a talble center-
ed with summer flowers and flor-
al arrangements decorated the
home.
Sunday night the bridegroom’s
mother was hostess for a wedding
supper honoring the newlyweds
at the Ruthven home at Lexing-
ton. Served on the cool, spacious
lawn, covers1 were laid for thirty
guests. After the meal the bride
and groom were presented with a
shower of miscellaneous gifts..
Later this week Mr. and Mrs.
Ruthven will go on a delayed
honeymoon trip to Waco.
The groom who has been engag-
ed in farming at Lexington is
presently employed at Olcoa in
Rockdale but they are temporarily
residing in Lexington.
