Advocacy Outreach
gave away 200 coats
from Region 13 Educa-
tion Service Center on
Monday, Dec. 15. The
coats were part of the
Coats for Kids give-
away.
After the big event in
Austin, undistributed
coats were given to
area organizations, in-
cluding Region 13,
which redistributed
them through its Home-
less Education Services
to partner organiza-
tions, including Elgin
ISD and Advocacy Out-
reach.
Staff loaded two vans
with coats on Monday
morning, hung them on
the racks in their Free
Store, and by close of
business day, all the
coats had been given
away. Word traveled
quickly through the
grapevine and parents
poured in to select
warm coats, rain jack-
ets and hoodie sweaters
for their children.
There were plenty of
coats for adults, too.
The Free Store at Ad-
vocacy Outreach redis-
tributes gently used
clothing, household
goods and furniture to
Elgin-area residents
free of charge.
The store is open to
all and it is stocked
with donations from
the Elgin community.
Because Advocacy Out-
reach is a tax-exempt
nonprofit organization,
those who donate used
goods can use the do-
nated value as a chari-
table donation to
reduce income taxes
owed.
