“People don’t know
what it is, you can have
PTSD from anything,
an automobile accident
or a death in the fam-
ily,” said Dileonardo.
“Thant’s the latest
thing we’ve done, but
we’ve also sponsored
the Boys and Girls
States, parades and
ROTC at high schools.”
Dileonardo said all
proceeds from the
meals go toward those
programs and that
the authentic meal is
worth a visit for many
reasons.
“There’s no Italian
restaurant in town that
serves the best Ital-
ian food, the veterans
always need help no
matter who they are,
sooner or later some
veteran is going to
need help,” said Dil-
eonardo. “The money
helps us support the
community whether,
it’s veterans, ROTC,
Boys State or Girls
State, those are all im-
portant programs.
The pasta is all you
can eat, and customers
can purchase a to-go
plate. The American
Legion Post 295 is lo-
cated at 115 N. Main
Street. For more infor-
mation, call 512-285

The American Le-
gion Post 295 offers
authentic Italian cui-
sine catered by Tony
Dileonardo, John
Quagliani, and Paul
Martinson every Fri-
day for $7 per plate to
benefit the American
Legion, a veteran’s ser-
vice organization, com-
mitted to mentoring
youth and sponsoring
programs within the
community.
Every Friday, the Ital-
ian trio serve a differ-
ent main dish to more
than 25 customers,
along with Italian gar-
lic bread and salad.
“We each take turns
cooking. I cook usu-
ally every third week,”
said Dileonardo. “I also
help John every week
when he cooks, so I’m
here basically every
Friday.”
The menu consists of
homemade traditional
dishes, including Dile-
onardo’s rigatoni and
Italian sausage, Quagli-
ani’s lasagna, and Mar-
tinsen’s spaghetti, with
each dish made with
fresh ingredients.
“When you eat in a
franchise restaurant,
it’s completely differ-
ent than what an Ital-
ian family eats,” said
Dileonardo. “That’s
why it’s so neat that we
cook here. You’re get-
ting exactly what we
eat at home, and I cook
with only fresh vegeta-
bles and fresh herbs.”
Dileonardy, 68, who
served in the United
States Navy for 26
years, and retired as
a master chief petty
officer, said the group
started Italian Fridays
to help out with the
American Legion as
they each are veterans.
Quagliani, 69 also
served in the Navy, Ma-
rine Corps as a petty
officer third class, and
Martinsen, 45, was in the
Marine Corps as a corpo-
ral.
“I think that the com-
munity needs to know
that it’s important for
them to support not only
us but the VFW and
other military organiza-
tions,” said Dileonardo.
“Freedom isn’t free, and
the military needs help -
veterans need help.”
The American Le-
gion Post 295 recently
helped sponsor a young
veteran, who recently
walked 800 miles to
garner awareness for
post-traumatic stress
disorder.
