Susie is a fresh face
at the monthly council
meetings, and is new to
city government, but
has seen the town grow
and wants to be a part
of what she sees as a
bright future for Elgin.
Arreaga has lived in
Elgin her entire life.
She has seen Elgin
double in size in her
34 years, and said

“I have a passion for
many genres of music
and love to dance to
Spanish music.”
Arreaga’s successes go
beyond professional ac-
complishments.
She is a cancer survi-
vor, and though the dis-
ease may have slowed
progress in some areas
of her life, she is de-
termined to meet her
goals.
“I also want to go back
to school, that’s the one
thing I haven’t com-
pletely accomplished
that I have a strong in-
terest in. I’ve started
multiple times but what
deterred me is having
had cancer at a young
age, three times,” she
said.

Arreaga’s outside in-
terests are distinct and
vary from her profes-
sional focus, as she has
a love of gardening,
small-scale farming,
and music.
“I have an incredi-
ble interest in agricul-
ture. Even though I
live within city limits,
I try and grow as much
of my own vegetables
and herbs as possible,
I also want to incorpo-
rate fruits. I hope to
eventually own prop-
erty outside the city
limits and do my own
farming. I love flowers
just as much, and give
my rose bushes as much
attention. I also enjoy
crafts, I like to try and

that even though it
has grown, it has not
reached its maximum
potential.
“I came to be on the
council because I have
an interest helping the
community, I think
it’s on a positive slope
of growth and I would
love to be a part of
making it happen,”
said Arreaga. “I’m am-
bitious, and love to be
involved and learn new
things.”
She has a strong in-
terest in the subjects
of science and math
that she has carried
beyond the classroom,
as she has worked in
accounting for an in-
frastructure and civil
engineering firm for
13 years; and she has
