school board and city council
after voters cast their ballots in
elections Saturday.
In the race for Elgin School
Board of Trustees District 3,
incumbent Beth Walterscheidt
narrowly retained her seat, gar-
nering 51.92 percent of the vote,
while challenger Patrick Maass
came up with 48.08 percent of
the vote.
A total of 104 votes were cast,
with Waltescheidt earning 54 of
those ballots to Maass’ 50 votes.
In the race for city coun-
cil Ward 3, incumbent Daniel
Lopez held off challenger James
Mark Jones, obtaining 73.47
percent of the vote, to Jones’
26.53 percent.

The Elgin Main Street pro-
gram in cooperation with the
Texas Historic Commission

during the Imagine the Pos-
sibilities Tour. If you’ve ever

Downtown Elgin is home to
food processing companies
such as Hat Creek Provisions
and ATX Homemade Jerky,
artist studios, retail stores,
restaurants, and offices in-
cluding state associations like
the Texas Quarter Horse As-
sociation.
A total of 49 ballots were cast
in the race, with Lopez earning
36 votes, while Jones received
13 votes.
Voter turnout for the election
Saturday was less than 6 percent
as only 154 ballots were cast out
of the 2,625 registered voters.
The next city council meeting
is May 15.
The next school board meeting
is May 27.

Elgin City Council signed a proclamation for ‘Put on Purple Day’ to raise awareness
about Lupus on Friday, May 18. On hand for the proclamation were Elliot LaCook,
Mayor Chris Cannon and Peyton LaCook. Payton was diagnosed with the disease
in December 2014. An estimated 1.5 million Americans suffer from the Lupus, a
chronic inflammatory, autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the
