NEW YORK (UPI) — Preb-
lems begin today for M Olym-
pic basketball hopefuls when
the referee tosses up an “over-
sized soccer ball." Then things
get worse.
After three days and 12
games at St. John’s University
this weekend, the 20 • man
Olympic Committee will select
12 of the players and six alter-
nates to represent the United
States in the Olympic games at
Tokyo this October.
What perplexes the par-
ticipants is how the U, S. has
remained undefeated in Olym-
pic competition (38-0 since
1936) with a basketball which
is larger and heavier than the
ones in use throughout the na-
tion, and under international
rules, considerably different
from those in vogue here.
