TO GO CAROLING
The Zionsville Luther League at
the meeting November 6 decided
to go caroling again this year.
The meeting opened with the
hymn, “Faith of Our Fathers,” with
Johnnie Lee Wagner in charge of
the opening. Psalm 25 was read
responsiyely.
Rev. R. J. Weber gave the pray-
er and topic, "Do We Really Be-
lieve in the Forgiveness of Sin?”
Marvin and Elmer Marburger
were welcomed visitors. The meet-
ing closed with the Lorld’s Pray-
er.

Federated Women's Club have
been in existence since 1890, and
that the- Federation spells prestige
and potential power that have in-
tegrated women’s clubs throughout
the world for the good of nations,
state and local community.
Projects Listed
Projects for the present admin-
istration to promote were listed by
Mrs. Pedigo as professional nurs-
ing, penny art, musical penny, and
Latin - American scholarships. She
also expressed the hope that the
club women will continue their ef-
forts in behalf of driver education.
The community achieve-
ment contest will be continued and
CARE is also a renewed project.

cradle of learning, as the country

A social hour closed the meet-
ing. The hostesses served coffee,
assorted cookies and salted nuts
from a table covered with a lace
cloth and adorned with bronze
chrysanthemums arranged in a sil-
ver bowl. Mrs. Wilder presided ov-
er the silver coffee service, and
large groups of Fortnightly mem-
bers and friends greeted the visit-
ing T.F.W.C. official.

Through Federation," the speaker
discussed various conceptions of
the meaning of “Federation” and
outlined numerous projects on the
current program of the Texas or-
ganization.
The guest speaker was introduc-
ed by Mrs. Elro Kunkel, one of the
hostesses, who served as program
chairman. Other hostesses were
Mrs. C. E. Southern and Mrs Ce-
cil Burch. A corsage of bronze
chrysanthemums was pinned on
Mrs. Pedigo with compliments of'
the Fortnightly.
Mrs. Wilder Presides
Mrs. Donald M. Wilder, presi-
dent of the club, presided, and the
invocation was offered by Mrs. W.
F. Tottenham, chairman of relig-
ion.
The report of the library board
was given by Mrs. A. E. Stinnett,
past president of the Fortnightly,
who announced that the library
will be open one night each week,
on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.
m. - - ■
On recommendation of the libra-
ry board the club voted unani-
mously in favor of allowing the
Brenham Art club to use the li-
brary club room for exhibits on re-
qpest.
Miss Marjorie Arp. Federation
counsellor, gave a report, taken
from The Texas Clubwoman, offi-
cial publication of the Texas Fed-
eration, of an article by Mrs. Ben
W. Boyd of Denton, president of
the Texas Federation.
Climaxing the program was Mrs.
Pedigo’s address. She spoke in de-
tail of the meaning of “Federa-
tion”, which she said Webster de-
fines as a number of societies in
which each keeps control over its
own local affairs. Mrs. R. C. Prout,
past president of the National Fed-
eration of Women’s Clubs, was
quoted as defining “federation” as

president of the United Church
Women of Washington County
when they observed World Com-
munity Day at the Methodist
Church November 7.

CHRISTMAS CHEER FUND
The St. Peter’s Lutheran
Church of Gay Hill at the Novem-
ber meeting voted to send $20 to
the Christmas cheer fund. This
fund benefits retired pastors and
pastor's widows.
The meeting opened with the
singing of the hymn, "Come Ye
Thankful People.” Mrs. Arthur
Schroeder was in charge of the de-
votions. The Bible study based on
Luke 18: 18-30 was given by Mrs.
Walter Weinman. Mrs. Herman
Kunrad and Mrs. Leroy Gaskamp
presented the topic.
The hymn, "Just As I Am With-
out One Plea," was sung for Mrs.
Walter Weinman's birthday.

movie star Tyrone Power makes
the melancholy last journey back
to the United States today.
His widow paid a long goodbye
Sunday night to the handsome
stage and screen idol who died
suddenly Saturday of a heart at-
tack.
Mrs. Power, the former Debbie
Anne Minardos, who is expecting
a baby early next year, will ac-
company the body on the flight
home. She slipped away from
friends Sunday night and spent
more than an hour at the side of
her husband’s body.

Meeting at the Blinn College 11-

“Keeping Faith With the Young-
er Generation,” was the topic dis-
cussed by Mrs. H. R. Ellwood,
guest of the Brenham Elementary
Parents - Teachers Association
meeting November 10.
She stressed in her discussion
not to push your child, or expect
too much of him.
Mrs. W. J. Lowman, treasurer,
reported a sizeable profit made
on the Halloween chili supper.
It was reported that Mrs. Grae-
ber’s room and Mrs. Crawford’s
room won the two prizes for most
chili supper tickets sold. Mrs. Earl
Kolkhorst, project vice president,
thanked all the members for their
help in making the Halloween chili
supper a success.
Mrs. Robert Malitz asked the
members for suggestions as to
how to spend the money made on
the supper. No definite action was
taken on this.
Thank Younotes were read from
Mrs. Wiese’s room for the prize
awarded them for getting the most
P-TA members and from Mrs.
Loesch’s room for the room prize
awarded them at the October
meeting.
The room prizes at this meet-
ing went to Mrs. Maynard’s room
and Mrs. Howell’s room.
The business meeting adjourned
after which refreshments of cook-
ies and Cokes were served by the
hostesses, Mrs. A. Marsh, Mrs. J.
Temple Evans and Mrs. J. Y. Al-

The Eben-Ezer Luther League of
Berlin at the meeting Thursday
night decided to have a skating
party on November 19.

Thought,” was the opening hymn.
Aneva Rust read the scripture
readings and Mae Dell Borchgardt
gave the prayer.
The topic, “How Do I Look?”
was presented by Edith • Gregor
and discussed by all leaguers.
The president urged leaguers to
attend the get acquainted rally at
Texas Lutheran College on Novem-
ber 28-29.
It was decided to have the so-
cial meeting Tuesday, November
25 at 7:30 p.m. All members are
to bring homemade candy or cook-
ies to be packed and sent to the
boys in service. Ann Landua is to
be in charge of getting supplies in
which they will be sent.
Norris Rhode. Aneva and Dor-
othy Rust are on the social com-
mittee.
All officers and promoters are to
meet on December 1 to plan pro-
grams for the coming months.
The meeting closed with singing
of “The King of Love My
Shepherd Is,” and the Lord’s
Prayer.

power of legislative committees
to quiz reluctant witnesses is un-
der Supreme Court examination
again this week.
Beginning Ims afternoon the
court has scheduled four cases on
the subject. Two are state cases
—from Virginia and New Hamp-
shire. The other two challenge
the operating authority of the
House committee on un-American
activities and the Senate internal
security subcommittee.
Earlier the nine justices
planned to look into the question
of artificial coloring for Texas
and Florida oranges The U.S.
Department of Health wants to
I prohibit use of a coloring materi-
al called "red 32” on grounds it
is poisonous.
Orange growers say they don't
use enough to harm anyone. They
