• LONDON (UPl)-Queen Eliza-
beth II gave birth to a boy to-
day, her third child and the first
infant born to a reigning British
sovereign in 103 years.
The queen and her new prince-
ling were both reported “doing
well.’’
The official announcement said
“the queen was safely delivered
of a son at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m.
at Elgin for four years and then
was transferred to Giddings. He is
a member of the Baptist Church, a

and the couple have two children.

Washington County Civil Defense
Unit was named Thursday night
when about 50 persons attended a
meeting of the county’s Civil De-
fense Advisory Committee.
County Judge Odis Tomachefsky,
who with Mayor Reese B. Lockett
selected the 53-member advisory
committee, said the attendance at
the City Hall Auditorium was con-
sidered “very good.”
Heading the council is Howard F.
Steinfeld of Sandy Hill, who will
serve as chairman. Others include
Rev. H. C. Ziehe of Sandy Hill, Col.
H R. Matthews of Chappell Hill, E.
O Phillips of Old Washington, Col.
H. R. Schwecke of Brenham and
Fred H. Heine of Burton.

a candidate for Democratic nomi-
nation as constable of Precinct 4
in Bryan, has been arrested and
charged with receiving and con-
cealing stolen property.
Three other men have been
charged with burglary in the same
case.
Charges were filed in justice
court and are scheduled to be tak-
