RECENTLY, we published an ar-

Washington County communities,
in which it was said the origin of
the name of Latium community
was unknown. Now comes Rev.
H. C. Ziehe, pastor of Sandy Hill
Lutheran church, to give the in-
formation. Rev. Ziehe reports that
while doing some recent research
work, he ran across a book by Dr.
Biesle of the University of Texas
history faculty. The book report-

originally settled by a well-to-do

their neighbors referred to them as
“Latin farmers.” Hence the name
of Latium.
