Strip Center on Highway 90.
Sgt. Louis Novosad, chief
investigating officer, and
eleven other officers from the
City of Sealy, Department of
Public Safety and Austin
County Sheriff’s Department,
along with a Wallis police

Personnel of Citizens State
Bank was evacuated Friday
afternoon, following a tele-
phone call which involved a
bomb threat and money
demands. The banking staff on
duty and bank patrons were
quietly moved outdoors short-
ly around 1:40 p.m. Officers
made a thorough check of the
building and premises, and
everyone returned to their
duties before 2:30 p.m.
Deputy Danny Lang and
Sheriff T. A. Maddox of the
Austin County Sheriff’s De-
partment, and Sgt. Louis
Novosad of the city police
department were at the scene
to check all premises and to
provide security. Leroy Zapa-
lac, bank president, discussed
security measures with the
officers following the incident.
The matter was reported to the
FBI.
John Selman, senior chair-
man of the board of Citizens
State Bank said that such an
incident is a felony and subject
to punishment, and thus bears
thorough investigation. It is a
costly incident because it
causes a loss of time and effort
on the part of the personnel in
its operation.
Students are also reminded to
bring $1.00 for locker deposits.
All students are encouraged
to attend orientation. If any
students are unable to attend
orientation for some reason,
they will be allowed to register
on the first day of school.
Teachers will be involved in a
week of in-service August
17-21 and students should not
come to the school to register
during this time.
