Aspirin May Enhance
Colds, Expert Wane
According to pharmacolo-
gist Joe Graedon, quoted in
Prevention magazine, aspirin
may actually make colds worse
for some people.
Graedon, author of “The
People’s Pharmacy” warned
that for some people aspirin
may increase the number of
viruses, lower the body’s own
production of interferon, a
natural antiviral substance,
and prevent vitamin C from
getting into the white blood
cells which fight infection.

State Comptroller Bob
Bullock’s office Thursday
warned that it will be early
1982 before Texans can
conduct and play legal bingo
and cautioned against fraudu-
lent claims that legal bingo has
already arrived in Texas.
George Garland, director of
the Bingo Regulation Division,
said the new bingo law also
requires a local option election
before games can be held.
He said because of the
language in the law the earliest
date a local option election can
be scheduled would be January
16, 1982.
“Any game before that time
and before the sponsor holds a
license from the Comptroller’s
office is an illegal bingo-game,
just like it’s always been,”
Garland said.
The Legislature this year
legalized bingo games sponsor-
ed by charitable, educational,
religious and civic organiza-
tions.
The law also provides that

halfback Clarence Cloud threw
a 49 yard touchdown pass to
wide open Darin Pacher.
Cloud also scored two more
touchdowns on runs of 8 and
20 yards.
The Tigers will find the next
two weeks a little tougher as
they take on East Bernard and
Waller respectively. The East
Bernard game is today,
Thursday, October 22, here at
5:30 p.m., homecoming week
for the fighting Sealy Tigers.
The 7th graders record now
stands at 4-1 overall and 3-0 in
district play. The youngsters
would like the whole commu-
nity’s and student body’s
support at their next home
game.
Brahmas from East Bernard.
The Brahmas bring in a 5-1
record, their only loss to
Waller.
In last week’s action the
Tigers went down at the hand
of the Rice Raiders 24-7. The
Tigers had the opportunities in
the game but couldn’t move
the ball against a strong Rice
defense. The offense had it’s
worst showing of the season in
this game.
In other games Bellville beat
Brazos 13-0, East Bernard over
Hempstead 42-18 and Waller
and Columbus played to a
21-21 tie. In games coming up
this week, the Tigers will have
to play the East Bernard
Brahmas like they played the
Bellville Brahmas to have a
chance at a win. East Bernard
has one of the top running
backs in the state and their
defense is solid against the run.
In this one I’U go with East
Bernard. I’ll call it 21-7 over
the Tigers.
In other games, Columbus
still in the race, goes to Brazos.
Brazos after a 3-0 start finds
the district a little tough.
Brazos is 0-3 in district. In this
one I’ll go with Columbus,
24-6 over Brazos.
Rice goes to Bellville. Rice
must win here or their district
hopes are over. Rice started
out strong but lost two district
games in a row. In this one I’U
go with Bellville, 21-14.
The other game puts

Garland said each applicant
for a bingo license will be
investigated to assure that the
organization qualifies under
the law.
“We are not going to permit
any fly-by-night operations,
and unauthorized games will
be subject to the penal code
concerning gambling,” he
said.
“Nothing’s legal without a
license from the state,” he
said.
He also said the new law will
also limit bingo games to three
a week and the amount of
prizes in a single game to $500
and $2,500 for a series of
games.
Garland said the Comptroll-
er’s office would be ready to
issue bingo licenses to
authorized organizations as
soon as local option elections
are certified.
He said the agney would also
be adopting rules and
regulations in time for Texans
to conduct legal bingo games.

He suggests that small

Children should be told to
