No foolin,’ this is a real holdup, but the boys with the guns are
reaching for the sky as theater manager Lon (A. E.) Walker of
Indianapolis relieves them of their shooting irons. The "frisking’
of small boy patrons became necessary after the lads joined en-
thusiastically in the action of western movie thrillers, firing cap
pistols and pop guns at the screen villains and taking part in movie
gunplay. Other patrons complained, so now the boys check their
guns at the door.

it the more common name of Bighorn Sheep. Each year, until the

together with the attached horns, weigh more than 40 pounds.

Rack or switch, which said load-
ing rack and switch is connected
to the International-Great North-

some, but I venture that, if you
will go out to your pullet house
before they come off the roosts h- 1
in the morning, you will find they P
can not all eat at one time they K
want to, if that is true, then you
are reducing the feed intake, and
also, the growth, vigor and sta-
mina of your birds. Even though
you purchase factory-built equip-
ment, you will be well repaid for
the extra investment, if you will
put out enough feeders so that
every bird in the flock can eat at
one time. I mean this to include
the timid ones that the others
wll! not permit to eat at the same
feeder with them. If you do this <
you will find that in spite of any
recommendations you have seen,
you will have not less than six
inches of single sided or three I
inches of two sided feeder space
per bird.
And this is another link in the
chain of circumstances that lead (
There are so many things that
should be considered at this time
of year, the temptation to con-
sider some of them in this col-
umn persists. But the average
poultryman can think of little
else than his pullet crop, usually.
Since they represent an ever-in-
creasing investment which can
show no returns until their de-
velopment is completed, it is nat-
ural that he devote as much
thought and energy to rounding
them out into the most profitable
condition as is possible.
So I should like to add another
thought with the hope it will help
to insure a little more profit from
some of these potential egg ma-
chines.
We all know that pullets are
made of feed, water and air, and
that in general, it will take a
definite amount of each to com-
plete the job. It has been shown,
too, that ordinarily, we can short-
en or lengthen the time necessary
by reducing or increasing the
amount of feed intake per day«e
But reducing the feed intake very V
much usually reduecs the vigor }
and stamina as well as the
growh, and few poultrymen
would consider that advisable.
More often they are interested in
all the growth, vigor, and stamina
they can get.
That being true, consideration
of the feeding facilities for the
birds is ’ orth some thought.
There have been various recom-
mendations made as to the amount
of feeder space necessary. If you
could spend one or two full 'days
watching, and studying, your pul-
lets feeding from the first arriv-
al at the feeders in the morning
to the last to leave it at night,
you would probably find some-
thing like this: When they begin
to see in the morning they start
for the feeders and they keep
coming as they come off the
roosts, until the feeders are filled.
Then for some time there is a
continual fight to try to satisfy
their appetites. Gradually they
thin out until there is but a few
eating. This continues until the
temperature begins to drive them
to the coolest places they can
find, where they remain, unless
downright hunger forces them out
for a few mouthfuls to tide them
over, until the temperature be-
gins to drop in the evening, when
the same mad scramble begins
again, trying to get enough to j
last them through the night. This
may magnify your conditions
