Fire Alarm Results
From Insect Bomb
A vapor bomb ignited in Wood-
ruff pharmacy to eradicate in-
sects resulted in a false fire
alarm being t u r n e d in about
10:20 p.m. Monday after the store
had closed.
A passer-by seeing the smoke-
filled store assumed that the
building was afire and turned in
the alarm.
Fire Chief George Brown to-
day cautioned businessmen and •
others using such insect bombs
at night to notify the fire depart-
ment beforehand in order that
possible property damage might
be averted when firemen arrive
at the scene and force entry into
buildings.
Keeping Tab on Sports
(Continued from Page 3)
and drove to the five but threw three wild passes and tried one run-
ning play to end the game.
Billy McGuffey, who is rated as the Lions’ most outstanding
back, didn’t look too impressive in the opener, declared McCain.
Substitute back G. W. Mays, who shared tailback duties with
McGuffey on Coach Charlie Mitchell’s varied single wing offense,
looked to be the best back on the field. Mays’ passing was accurate,
and he was running well.
The Panther tutor said that no one boy in the line looked too
oustanding but that Robert Lambert, a 165 pound guard, was prob-
ably the hardest charger in the forward wall.
The Lions will furnish the Leopards their first opponent in dis-
trict play on Oct. 17 in Leeper stadium.
You can bet your life that the Lions will be giving everything
they have to avenge that last second loss to the Leopards in Green-
ville last year when Roddy Osborne snagged a pass from the arm of
Chuck Curtis on the last play of the game to give the locals a 27 to
25 win.
THIS AND THAT
Buddy Homer, former Gainesville Leopard gridder, plans to
enter TCU this fall. Buddy is going to try out for the freshman
team at a defensive halfback or linebacker position.
Fight fans who own TV sets have a treat in store for them to-
morrow night when Rocky Graziano takes on undefeated Chuck Da-
vey. Odds favor the sledge-fisted Graziano who won and lost the
middleweight crown to Tony Zale in three memorable fights. Some
critics are of the opinion that Rocky has been washed up since those
fights, but believe that he will knock out Davey if he can hit him.
It looks like both pennant chases will go right down to the wire.
A lot of experts are conceding the pennant to the Yanks in the
American league, even though their lead of 2%2 games is a half game
less thn the Dodgers’ lead in the National. The Yanks, they say,
have the confidence and poise of champs, while the Brooks’ pitching
staff is floundering and ready to collapse.
Today is the last chance to buy your season tickets for Leopard
home games. Reserve seats to the lid blaster against Tech go on sale

to save yourself the trouble of fighting the crowd to purchase a
ticket at the game.
