We are now ready to begin-
the search to fill the office of
Vice President for Fiscal Af-
fairs. Because of the special in-
terest which all of our con-
stituencies have in this appoint-
ment and because of its par-
".ticular relationship to the
Board of Trustees and our ef-
fort in The Brown Challenge
campaign, I shall serve as
Chairman of the Search Com-
mittee and will make the final
recommendation of the
nominee to the Board.
In the selection process, I
propose to use the Faculty
Finance Advisory Committee
and the Student-Administration
Liaison Committee for input in
screening and interviewing the
candidates. Inasmuch as Dr.

Paper Co. and as director of in-
dustrial health for the Texas
State Health Department.

munity was saddened to learn
of the death of The Reverend
Harvey D. Watts last Thurs-
day. Funeral services were
held Saturday, and the family
requested thet in lieu of flowers
memorial gifts be made to the
Nan Philpott Ellis Scholarship
Fund at Southwestern.

The Board of Trustees voted
Friday, January 28, 1977, to in-
crease tuition for the 1977-78
academic year (two
semesters) by $100. It also
voted a $75 increase for room
and board.
The increases were made
necessary by the inflationary
nature of the present economy,
particularly in the areas of
utilities, fuel, and
maintenance.
The total of $175 represents
an upward adjustment of only
5.6% for resident students. In a
time of rapidly rising prices, in-
stitutions of higher learning
everywhere are having great
difficulty balancing their
