lodge, so come cozy and cuccly, and
THINK SNOW! In addition, minor history
will be made as DZ Debra Carmack puts in
her first ever Fall (or Spring!) Party ap-
pearance. so don’t miss it.
Greetings, fellow Southwesterners, from
the sisters of Delta Zeta. Well, the in-

We’re looking forward to more fastpaced
basketball action soon.

The Union Program Council coor-
dinator of musical presentations, Tim
McGarity, will host singer songwriter
Steve Gillette this Friday night at 7
p.m. in the Alley (formally the Union
Theatre). Gillette has been a mainstay
of the Southern California folk-pop
scene for years and his songs have been
recorded by such notables as Linda
Rondstadt, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne
Murray, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
and John Denver. Other artists who
have put Gillette’s songs on vinyl in-
clude: Mickey Gilley, the Hagers, Ian
and Sylvia, the Sunshine Company,
Mel Tillis and Bobby Vinton.
Rondstadt, and early Gillette
booster and still a dose friend, has in-
cluded six of his songs on her albums,
including a duet with Steve of his
“Back on the Street At un." Gillette’s
own albums have been widely praised
1. Publicly define and recognize the
role of the international student;*
2. Actively encourage intercultural
awareness and consciousness on cam-
pus and in the community at large;
3. Provide for the unique social,
academic and cultural needs of the in-
ternational student, perhaps through
the establishment of a position of In-
ternational Student Coordinator;

Excitement was high at our Halloween
mixer with the Pikes. We especially enjoyed
trading slightly risque songs with these fine
young men, and would like to thank the
Pikes for the use of their house.
Phi delfs
The Phi Delts would like to thank
everyone in coming to our TOGA PARTY
on Friday night. We hope everyone had a
good time. A special thanks should go to
the brothers who took the time to decorate,
the TOGA PARTY truly turned out to be
the party of the year!
The Phi I flag football team took first
place in their division last week. Con-
gratulations on the good job.
Scholarship Chairperson Laura Riggs an-
nounces with pleasure that grades are
lookin’ good. Her slogan, of the week:
“Think 4.0” Keep those grades high!
At its November 6 meeting, the
Senate passed two resolutions. The 1
first was adopted after lengthy discus-
sion with John Lind, Vice-President of
Admissions, and is fundamentally
identical to a resolution passed on
November 15, 1983, by the Senate and
on December 6,1983, by the Academic
Affairs Council:

and Erica Swords. We all had a blast at our
Fall Party this weekend. The Marriott—
Hotel in Austin was overflowing with
“Mardi Gras Madness”! Decorations in-
cluded Mardi Gras beads, glitter, masks,
balloons, and a bunch of other neato
stuff . . . And the costumes were fantastic!
We had everything from a priest and a nun
to Ghostbusters .... In closing, the
women of Delta Dlta Delta would like to
wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiv-
ing holiday! Bye!
Both resolutions will be forwarded
for consideration by the proper ad-
ministrators and councils.
The Senate welcomes a new
member, Mike Lade, to its ranks.
Mike, the runner-up in the Ruter
Senate race, was accepted by acclama-
tion, replacing resigned Senator Kenny
Simon.
We, the members of the Student
Senate, propose that the dollar amount
of academic scholarships, awarded to
students in their first year at
Southwestern, with amounts allocated
each year, be increased each year such
that the scholarship gift may cover the
same percentage of tuition costs as the
scholarship provided in the semester of
the student’s original entrance to the
University.
though none were a major commercial
success. His fourth album, “A Little
Warmth,” was produced by Graham
Nash and features guest appearances
by Nash, veteran session man David
Lindley (lead guitar player for Jackson
Browne) and a duet with Jennifer
Warnes of “Lost the Good Thing We
Had," which received considerable
airplay on country radio stations.
Gillette has earned many film
credits, writing and singing the theme
for MGM’s “The Outfit”, Walt
Disney’s production of “The Pond”
and others including “The Grass is
Greener,” “Summer Run,” and
“Door to Door." Gillette’s current
front-runner is “Bed of Roses” which
has been recently recorded by Mel
Tillis, Mickey Gilley and Bobby Vin-
ton. There will be refreshments. Ad-
mission is free.
The Senate Fall Break Committee
encourages all members of the Univer-
sity community to attend the hearing at
4:00 on Thursday in Cullen
Auditorium. Representatives of the en-
tire spectrum of opinion on a break are
urged to attend, and voice their objec-
tions or support; otherwise, the Senate
will not be able to accurately assess the
issue.

Southwestern:
Hello everyone! It’s been pretty busy
around S.U. lately, and Tri-Delta has been
busy trying to keep up with it all. The
Phonathon was a huge success, due in part
to the efforts of Phonathon Chairperson
Mary. Akin and “nightchairpeople” K.
Marie Franta and Anna Abraham. These
Tri-Deltas did a wonderful
job. . . . Several Tri-Deltas and pledges
had a great time on Halloween putting on a
haunted house for the Gingham Goose
Daycare Center — it was a lot of fun, and
we were really scary! Last Thursday, the
Tri-Deltas had a simply wonderful time
with the freshmen women in San Gabriel
Park. We enjoyed the get-together and
hope everyone else did, too! Chapter room
visitation this past Wednesday was great —
we’d like to say “thank you” to all the
women who took the time to come and see
us! And, speaking of the chapter
room . . . Tri-Delta is proud to announce
that we have a brand new color television.
