still with them and prepared to do a better
part by them then I have done in the past;
ready to meet any and all legitimate competi-
uon. I thank you for past favors and solicit a
share of your future trade. Respectfully,
Judge D. M. Alexander, of
Weaterford, this week places his
the higher courts on a charge.
As a lawyer he stands in the
front ranks of his profession as
one of acknowledged ability. His
clear.analytical mind enables him
to grapple with the most intri-
cate questions. The judge is a

The following item clipped from
the Weatherford Daily Herald
will serve to introduce the judge
to our readers: “In our an-
aouncement column appears the
lame of Judge D. M. Alexander
is a candidate for district judge
if the 43rd judicial district, com-
posed of Jack. Wise and Parker
counties. Judge Alexander is
serving his second term as coun-
ty judge of Parker county, and
has made an efficient officer. He
has been alive to every public
interest and rapid progress has
been made in all general inter-
ests of the county under his ad-
ministration. He has made an
enviable reputation on the bench
DONATES $5,000 TO THE DECATUR
BAPTIST COLLEGE.
The news has gradually been
obtaining circulation here this
week that Mr. W. T. Waggoner
had presented the trustees of
the Baptist College with the
munificent sum of $5,000. The
news was at first discredited and
charged to rumor unauthenica-
ted. However, it has been con-
clusively learned that the dona-
tion has actually been made and
that if the check is not now in
President Ward's hands it soon
will be. Coupled with the grati-
fying news was another rumor
that the Baylor schools in Texas
had supplemented Mr. Waggon-
er's donation with another gift
of $15,000, both sums to be used
to pay for the construction of a
young ladies’ dormitory to be
built of brick It was impossi-
ble to corroborate this last ru-
mor, but it is stated that Presi-
dent Ward is in Waco now con-
ferring with the Baylor officials.

good deal during their visit here:
Mrs. A. L. Park. Salt Lake,
Utah, Mrs. Guy Waggoner. Elec-
tra: Miss Enna Brown, White-
wright.
The house throughout had been
darkened and decorated with
palms, ferns and other green
plants, but color schemes in the
halls, parlors and ‘dining room
had been varied, making a
charming succession of different
pleasing affects i n advancing
from one room to another. In
the front hall where the hon-
orees stood in the receiving line
the effect was that of red lights
illuminating a darkened cham
ber transformed into a pretty
den. The color scheme of the
first parlor was white, the room
being lighted by candles and
decorated with white carnations.
In the next the colors were red.
with red carnations and cannas.
The dining room was in pink,
with pink carnations and lamps
shaded with rose pink petaled
shades.
The other members of the
house party were Mesdames W.
L. Rush, Furd Halsell T. B.
Yarbrough and A. B. Whorton,
and Misses Opal Kenney, Ada
Cates, Callie Sweeton and Edna
Williams. Mesdames Furd
Halsell and A. B. Whorton re
and Mrs. J. W. Swinney, her
son-in law and daughter, of Au-
gusta, Ken., are visiting her,
having been summoned some
days ago on account of her ill-
ness. We are glad to report that
her health is improving.
It is with pain that we an-
nounce another death in the fam-
ily of H C. Kelley, of Sycamore.
On Wednesday Leonard, a son
19 years of age, died of typhoid
fever, the same dread disease
that within the past five months
has carried off four of the nine
members of the family, the fa-
ther, two sons and a daughter.
Had you noted the increased
illumination from the electric
lights? Its because the big new
engine at the light plant has
been attached to the dynamo.
Chas. Moore, of Moore Bros.,
explained to a Messenger man
Saturday that the new engine
would furnish power enough to
operate the mill, waterworks
and light plant and that the loud
talking and shooting gasoline en-
gine will be used only on occa-1
sions. Enough patrons are using
lights now to take up all the sup-
ply of electricity the dynamo
will generate.
Mr. S. A. Keen, of Chico, has
given us his announcement as a
candidate for representative in
the next legislature from this
county. Mr. Keen is a native
Texan, having been born and
reared in Dallas county. For the
past twenty-three years he has
lived at Chico. He has been a
farmer all his life and believes
that he can represent all the in-
terests of the county, and says
that if elected he will do so to
the very best of his ability. He
stated that he was in favor of
everything for the uplifting and
moral advancement of the youth
of the country and opposed to
everything of a degrading na- i
ture. Consider his candidacy 1
when you come to make out your 1
ticket.
