here is a suggestion on how to

The bidding should be short

pie as that, though it is not par-
ticularly difficult it is, plain
from the start that you cannot
fail to make seven spades unless
one of the ’opponents was dealt
five or six hearts to the ten. ,
Consequently, you must as- i
Slime that this situation exists; 3
If it doesn’t, you will not have
the slightest difficulty making
the tricks.
In line with this, after ruffing
the ace of diamonds you draw
one round of trumps and atop.
You then cash the A-K of
hearts. After West shows out
without ruffing, you trump the
eight of hearts in dummy. The
rest of the tricks are yours and
you wind up making the grand
slam.
Of course, you are slightly
lucky that the second heart was
not ruffed, but this was one
danger you could not escape.
It would be wrong to draw
all the trumps first and eventu-
ally rely on a 3-3 or 4-2 heart
break. You would surely go
down if it turned out that ths
hearta were divided 5-1 or 6-0.
The best way to play the hand
is to take a round of trump,
and two rounds of hearts. This
method gives you the maximum
chance of making the grand
slam.
