Mr. J. E. Swepston, the tire-
less president of the Junior Ep-
worth League of the Methodist
church, led his crowd of young-
sters, some fifty in number, to
the grove near Mrs. Robert’s
spring Thursday evening and
treated them to a load of large,
juicy Pecos Valley watermelons.
A merry routine of games and
music was enjoyed. Mr. Swep-
ston has done much good among
the children and they always
know a good time is in store
when he plans an outing.—Ar-
tesia Advocate.
The citizens of Boyd and the
surrounding communities, have
inaugarated a movement for the
improvement of the public roads
of that section. The measures
to be immediately undertaken
are the placing of straw on sand-
beds in the roads, and that is a
most effective means of tempo-
rarily improving roads in sandy
districts and costs but little in
either labor or money. Let
others do likewise.

Like Finding Money.
Finding health is like finding mon.
ey—so think those who are sick.
When you have a cough, cold, sore
throat, or chest irritation, better act
promptly like W. C. Barber, of San-
dy Level, Va. He says: “I had a ter-
rible chest trouble, caused by smoke
and coal dust on my lungs; but, after
finding no relief in other remedies, I
was cured by Dr. King’s New Discov-

Are You Engaged?
Engaged people should remember,
that, alter marriage, many quarrels
can be avoided, by keeping their di-
gestios in good conditions with Elec-
tric Bitters. S. A. Brown, of Bennetts-
ville, S. C., says: “For years, my wife
suffered intensely from dyspepsia,
complicated with a torpid liver, until
she lost her strength and vigor, and
became a mere wreck of her former
self. Then she tried Electric Bitters,
which helped her at once, and finally
made her entirely well. She is now
strong and healthy.” Man & Sim-
mons, druggists, sells and guarantees
them, at 50c a bottle.

It is said that great discontent
prevails in Japan on account of
thelterms of the peace treaty, and
it is even said that a revolution
may be imminent there as a con-
sequence. The Japanese are ca-
pable of taking extreme meas-
ures in cases where govermen-
tal action does not meet with ap-
proval. It would be just like
some misguided swashbuckler
to take the life of Baron Komu-
ra on his return to Japan on the
ground that in yielding to Rus-
ria's terms he had betrayed the
interests of Japan. It would not
be the first time a high person-
age had fallen at such handsand
on such a plea. Their intense
patriotism and interest in pub-
lic affairs renders each Japa-
nese a self-constituted guardian
of the national honor, and any
public man who is believed to
act contrary to the interests of
the country is liable to be sum-
marily removed in the belief
that such removal is a service to
the Empire. Violence is more
