old time hospitality, and it is a long
established custom for old settlers and
the young ladies and young men who
are “natives and to the manner born”
to gather ’neath the holly in this old
home at yuletide and enjoy them-
selves.

house was darkened and artificially
lighted and beautifully decorated,
the color scheme being red white and
green. A delicious two course lunch
was served at which Misses Catha-
rine and Ripple Frazer charmingly
assisted, and music was provided

selections. Mrs. D. W. Frazer won
the first and Mrs. N. W. Halcomb
the consolation prize. The occasion
was most thoroughly enjoyed by those
present.
Among the Yuletide pleasures held
last week was a gathering of a few of
the early day settlers of Decatur at
the hospitable home of Uncle Charley
Cates. Some good, old fashioned

tinue the business at that place. We
wish them much suedess in the Coal

The dance, given by the Twentieth
Century club at the hall last Thurs-
day night, was a pronounced success.
Most everyone was there and all re-
port a most enjoyable time. Music

Hugh Robinson is here from Taco-
ma, Wash., visiting relatives. Hugh
is an old Decatur boy and his many
friends here will be glad to learn that
he is doing well in his home in the far
northwest. He contemplates going to
Alaska in the spring.
W. G. Bryan was up from Fort
Worth this week and visited in the
city and vicinity a few days. He is
on the police force of the Panther
City, and we have no doubt he is
as efficient in that capacity there as
he was while serving as a peace offi-
cer here for so many years.
Claud Shaw, the new constable of
Rhome, arrested one Lee Chaney, of
Haslet, at Avondale on Friday of
last week, charged with theft of a
purse containing money and notes,
which the prisoner had taken from the
home of Mr. Hudnall, of the Rhome
vicinity. This was Mr. Shaw’s first
arrest since he has been peaee officer
of Rhome.
Crawford's Comedians will play
here Jan. 5th, with matinee Satur-
day evening, a splendid play Satur-
day night, and another for Monday
night the 7th. This Company has 18
people, good band and orchestra.
The bills will be “The Gates of Jus-
tice,” “Uncle Zeke,” and “A Fam-
ily Affair.” Prices 25c, 35c and 50c.
Watch for the big parade.
The people of our city were awak-
ened one night last week by the
blowing of whistles and ringing bells,
and many thought that the whole
city was on fire, till the second
thought struck them that it was the
old year's “moans” and the new-
year's “wailings:” then after the
racket had sucumbed, they again
went to sleep to dream of the good
resolutions they would make the next
day—and "break” the next.
VAt 3 o'clock Monday afternoon the
hospitable and spacious home of Mr.
and Mrs. W. L. Dallas was opened to
a numerous number of friends to meet
and welcome the lovely and accom-
plished bride of our most esteemed
friend, Glen Russell. After the cour-
tesies of the afternoon were passed
we were cordially invited by the hos-
tess and her sister, Miss Lena Rus-
sell, to a beautiful decorated dining
room to partake of a dainty luncheon.

position at the Red Store. Mr. Ar-
nold contemplates moving to Fort
Worth.
