Waste Management
Wilson said that the company
could offer free landfill services at a
convenient location, which would
save $60,000 a year.
He also said the company would
provide rolloff containers at the
city's recycling center for the pur-
pose of brush and heavy trash dis-
posal.
Waste Management also indicated
to Wilson that they would purchase
a barrel chipper to chip limbs and
wood debris along curbsides. Wil-
son said the city could save thou-
sands of dollars per year in brush
collection.
Waste Management currently has
many contracts in Brazoria County
and the Bay Area.

Dear Editor
We have recently received an
alarming number of complaints
concerning the sale of tobacco to
minors in and around the Alvin
area. Texas law, specifically section
161.081 of the Health and Safety
Code, prohibits the sale of tobacco
products to any person younger
than 18 years of age.
The law further prohibits the sale
of tobacco products to anyone who
intends to avail them to persons
younger than 18 years of age. What
this means to you is that you may
not legally sell tobacco products to
a person younger than 18 years of
age even if they have the permis-
sion of a parent or guardian.
This letter is simply a courtesy
reminder to all area merchants to
please request identification when
selling tobacco products to the
youths of our community. We have
neither commenced an investigation
of these sales nor have we accused
any store of these sales. Again, this
letter is being sent to' all area
retailers as a courtesy reminder from
the Alvin Police Department
We look forward to your
cooperation in this matter and
should you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me.
S/ Michael D. Merkel,
Chief of Police
The Cryptoquip is a substitution cipher in which one
letter stands for another. If you think that X equals O, it
will equal O throughout the puzzle. Single letters, short
words and words using an apostrophe give you dues to
locating vowels. Solution is by trial and error.

Robinson.
Robinson is glad to get the five
interns, which will be just like
having five extra staff members.
As the program grows, they hope
to add more schools and more
interns. By the fifth year of the
program they hope to have 200
interns to place in the schools.

'.growing community.
"Years ago you knew
everybody," said Hawkins. "The
town has grown somewhat and in
a lot of places you don't know
your neighbors."
Hawkins said he sees this
change as a sign of a promising
future for Alvin.
"There are a lot of positive
aspects to that growth," added
Hawkins. "I think Alvin is on
the verge of seeing a population
increase. Just look at the growth
in the Clear Lake area and
Friendswood."
Hawkins' wife Adrianne is also
actively involved in the
community. She worked on the

serving as chairperson of the
