HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1 WHEREAS, The family, friends, and colleagues of Powell W.
2 Peek, county judge of Red River County, were deeply saddened by his
3 passing on January 20, 2007; and
4 WHEREAS, Born on January 15, 1942, in Red River County, to
5 Powell Wootten Peek, Sr., and Mavis Lum Peek, Judge Peek worked for
6 more than 40 years in the oil industry before he retired to his
7 family farm in Red River County; and
8 WHEREAS, Even in retirement he contributed to his community;
9 in March 2001, he accepted an appointment as county judge to the Red
10 River County Commissioners Court; first elected to the position in
11 November 2002, Judge Peek was well respected by his colleagues in
12 county government as a wise and compassionate man and an exemplary
13 public official; he took an important part in the drive to restore
14 the Red River County Courthouse, and as county judge he was a member
15 of the Ark-Tex Council of Governments executive board, as well as
16 numerous other regional boards; and
17 WHEREAS, Powell Peek was a good family man and a widely
18 admired public servant; he will be remembered for his wisdom and
19 common sense as well as his compassion, and his dedication to his
20 beloved Red River County stands as an inspiration to others and will
21 not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
23 hereby honor the life of Powell W. Peek and offer sincere
24 condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Diane Peek;1
