The AHS head coach is hoping
the combination of 12 returning let-
terman and 29 elevated players from
the unbeaten 10-0 Jackets’ junior
varsity squad, makes more than a
few dents in the league proceedings
as well.
“Building on the success, the JV
had last year is something we’d def-

Calling Rudy Tomjanovich.
Stan Mauldin would like to know
your secret.
Considering the fact that Alvin
High School spends the first three
weeks on the road to open the 1995
varsity football season, the Yellow-
jackets’ head coach might well
inclined to seek some advice from
the Houston Rockets' mentor on
how to cope successfully away
from home.
With Texas High School Foot-
ball in between realignment peri-
ods, the Jackets' schedule simply
turns over next fall with non-
district road affairs at Deer Park
(Sept. 8), Pasadena Dobie (Sept
16) and Dulles (Sept. 21).
AHS played all three teams at
home in ‘94.
The Jackets’ only victory in a
problem-riddled 1-9 season came at
home in the second week against
Dobie by a narrow 10-8 decision.
AHS also had games go the wire
against against District 24-5A
Opponents Angleton (16-28), Clear
Creek (10-13) and Galveston Ball
€2-14), only to fall each time in
die final minutes.
. ’“That (the last-minute defeats)
were the most frustrating part about
hist year," Mauldin said. “Not only
Were the games tough losses, but
they occurred in consecutive weeks,
which made it even more difficult
igtake."
: The fall docket isn’t much more
sympathetic towards Alvin.
-If the initial slate isn’t tough
enough, after playing Dobie on Sat-
latday, the Jackets have to come
back five days later against the Vik-
ings in a special Thursday
eOcounter at Mercer Stadium in
Sugar Land.
3 '“Hopefully some of that Rockets’
rqad mentality can wear off on us.”
