Mr. Kastner was born in Rok-
i, Austria, Dec. , 18, 1864 and'
came to the United States in
1882, locating at Comfort, Texas.
In 1891 he married Ida Baumgar-
ten at McDade and they establish-
ed their home there where Mr.
Kastner was widely known for
more than 72 years as a success-
ful speculative farmer, rancher'
and merchant. They. were the
parents of a family of eleven sons
and five daughters all of whom
survive him with the exception
of one son, Morris and a daughter,
Ann. Mrs. Kastner also preceded
her husband in death.
Mr. Kastner united with the
Catholic Church in the Old Coun-
try when a boy, 'and when he set-
tled in McDade there was no
Catholic Churrch and he chose
the Baptist church in which to
worship. He was an influential
citizen of that city and reared
his children to become God-fear-
ing, substantial citizens to do hon-
or to his name. Despite his ad-
vanced age of 92 Mr. Kastner en-
joyed exceptional health and was
active until two weeks prior to his
death and was confined to his bed
only two days. He was ambitious
and industrious and through his
application to his vocations amas-
sed a goodly portion of the world-
ly possessions in land, cattle and
money. His hobby was playing
dominoes and telling stories of the
early days of this area, from
which he received great enjoy-
ments. He lived a good, full and
rewarding life and left behind a
