it is a most holy and helpful sea-
son to every soul who entero upon
it with the intention of spending a
Lent with Jesus. All religious
bodies Wave their special seasons,
some in one form some in another.
They will have revivals and pro-
tracted meetings, which will go be-
yond six weeks. People will sit
and listen to the thundering, and
blood curdling stories of some good
brother, who has been brought in
for this special season, and who
will want $500 or $1,000 for his
work. This they will gladly pay,
but they will leave the salary of a
faithful and devoted minister un-
paid. Some people get so much
good that you will not see their faces
inside the church until the next
revival . A
w.Itwe would receive the blessings
this holy season holds for us, we
must fit ourselves for the work we
have to do, and the influence we
must exert. How better can we' do
this than by adopting the same
method our Savior adopted to fit
Himself for the lifework and influ-
ence. He Withdrew into the wilder
ness to pray, to fast, and to com-
mune more closely with God.
Think of Christ in the wilderness
withdrawn from all ordinary sur-
roundings, shut away from life's
turmoil and distractions, meeting
the forces of the miserable world,
the powers that rule' in man’s
deeper life, the triate that test man’s
nobler self. These lessons of the
wilderness are lessons of daily liv-
ing. Each day has its own cross
and we shall need daily strength.
As St Paul says "My God shall
supply all your needs according to
His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
(By Rev. Thos Booth)
Before another issue of this paper
we shall have entered upon another
Lenten season.
Some have said to me. T don’t
see any good in giving up- every-
thing for six weeks, and then doing
anything you mind to the rest of
the year." Lent does not stand for
this. It is a special season set
