We left this garden November 17th, a
delightful day. Nothing of importance
has taken place since. One morning a
flying fish flew in at one of the port-
holes. It was a curious thing, long tins
projecting from each side of its mouth,
which were its wings. It also had long
fins for a tail.

It is with characteristic modesty that
Mr. Bailey says: "The questions on
which I differed with Mr Brran were
* outside of-the Chicago platform, and, in
my judgment, they could not to put in-
to any democratic platform. Since his
nomination for president in 1896 Mr.
Bryan has had the good sense to keep
within the declarations of his party, ami
, as long as he does that he will find no
supporter who is more loyal than I am.
I have not, however, changed my opin-
- ion in the least about the questions on
which I formerly differed with him.
and if he should attempt to commit the
democratic party to his support of those
propositions, I would undoubtedly oppose
him again.” Before nominating Mr.
Bryan, the democrats should secure
from him a pledge that he continue to
show “good sense" to not antagonize
