VATICAN CITY, Dec. 14 —UP-
A fresh attack of hiccups harassed
Pope Pius XII Tuesday but Vati-
can sources said there is no cause
for "immediate alarm.”
The hiccups which had both-
ered the 78-year-old pope during
his recent illness returned Tues-
day morning.
'The holy father has suffered a
slight return of hiccups, which
plagued him before, but there is no
cause for immediate alarm,’ the
Vatican spokesman said.
At the same time the Vatican
press office verbaly issued an of-
ficial bulletin on the ailing pope's
condition.
'The condition of the pope is
stationary," "it said.
The highway ehairman warned,
however, that the highway depart-
ment has demands for $1000 for
every dollar it has to spend, and -
that it cannot wait long on com-,
munities to make up their minds-.
He pointed out that the department
now has earmarked for immediate
spending in the Brenham area some
four million dollars on Highways
Nos. 36 and 290 and the loop. .
But these improve menu all
are contingent upon the build-
ing of the highway loop around
Brenham. He said if the election
for the bond issue should fail, then
"the money now earmarked for
Highways 290 and 36 will have to
be spent elsewhere so long as this
bottleneck exists.”
“it you accept the highway pat-
tern we propose, Brenham will not
only solve its transportation prob-
lems of today, but in my opinion
will absolutely assure its prosper-
ity in the future. I tell you that
in all candor,” the highway chair-
man declared. -
