today the county commissioners fixed
the county tax rate for the ensuing
year, reduing the levy .from 57%
rents to 47% cents on the hundred dol-

G. W. Norwood district, was reduced

Operators From Chicago to the City of
Mexico Took Fart in the Pro-
ceedings. j
etween 3 and 4 o'clock Sunday
morning there was a union meeting
held which was attended by men sta-
tioned in all parts of the United
States and some points in Mexico,
they talked with each other, exchang-
ed views, voted and discussed the
strike question, and no man had to
closed and the usual goodnight went
over the wire, the operators lingered
at the key and sounder. The wire was
strung from the City of Mexico to
Chicago, taking in the Texas offices
and extending out in branch lines
through all the Middle and Southern
States, with wide arms reaching to
the East and the distant West. They
could hear each other along the thous-
ands of miles of wire and the discus-
sion was opeed in regard to the de-
mands the Associated Press operators

attended the picnic in Grove’s pasture
