H.B. No. 1622
1 AN ACT
2 relating to the creation of a county court at law in Hill County.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
4 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 25, Government Code, is
5 amended by adding Sections 25.1111 and 25.1112 to read as follows:
6 Sec. 25.1111. HILL COUNTY. Hill County has one statutory
7 county court, the County Court at Law of Hill County.
8 Sec. 25.1112. HILL COUNTY COURT AT LAW PROVISIONS. (a) In
9 addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section 25.0003 and other
10 law, a county court at law in Hill County has concurrent
11 jurisdiction with the district court in felony cases and family law
12 cases and proceedings. A county court at law does not have
13 jurisdiction of felony cases involving capital murder.
14 (b) A county court at law in Hill County has the same terms
15 of court as the 66th District Court.
16 (c) The judge of a county court at law may not engage in the
17 private practice of law and must meet the qualifications
18 established by Section 25.0014.
19 (d) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid as
20 provided by Section 25.0005. The judge's salary shall be paid out
21 of the county treasury on order of the commissioners court. The
22 judge is entitled to necessary office and operational expenses,
23 including administrative and clerical personnel, in the same manner
24 as the county judge.
