One of the causes of lowered ef-
fieieney, we know, to took of emo-
tional control.
If one is angry, jealous, or hating
semseas aetively, he cannot work
well. Other things, such as over-ex-
ritement, worry, shame, fear, or even
a more pleasant sensatiph such as
intenae levs will uhdermine not only
work, but meatal processes aad
health.
A temperamental person with a
hair-trigger nervous system, jump-
ing from the extremes of happiness
one day to the depths of despair the
nest. or lost to an abyss of hate or
other mental emotion, is seldom well.
Moreover his work is' likely to be
erratie and none too dependable.
The daily job of being a parent re-
quires that mentality, morally and
physically, he be effieient. But he
cannot be efficient if he loses emo-
tional control.
It to easy, of course, to tell fathers
and mothers never to get angry, to
overcome their dislikes and hatred,
to banish discontent. But it is a fact
that parent* can do a great deal of
harm to children by lark of emo-
tional eontrol in themselves.
Worry, we cannot get away from so
easily. But half the time we worry
about things that are not necessary.
For one thing we worry too much
about what other people will think.
Besides, half our worries are not
worries, bat longings.
Self control, an even dispositjon,
liking people, ceasing to be envious
of other people’s luck, not getting
foolishly worked up over trifles—and
these things will make home happier
aad the care of the children easier.
In other words, the best parents
are those who are satisfied and happy,
aad like Emerson's unforgettable
motto, are those who “avoid exces-
sive joy and complaining grief."
Children instinctively respect the
mother or father who refuses to give
way to petty emotions. Natuarliy,
obedience will follow much more
readily to the wake of this respect.

There will be a Christian Science
lecture Sunday afternoon at S o'clock
ia the high school auditorium, de-
livered by Prof. Hermann S. Hering,
C. S. B., of Boston, Massachusetts, to
which the publie is cordially invited.
Since the First Church at Christ,
Scientist, was erected at the corner
of Thirteenth and Taylor streets
several years ago, it has almost
outgrown its seating capacity and for
the past three years the lectures
have been held in larger places. The
high school auditorium being cen-
trolly located will be a great ad-
vantage to the large crowds which
generally attend those lectures.
Professor Hering, being sn author-
ised lecturer for the church, needs
no other recommendation and thoso
who have attended other lectures are
impatiently looking forward to Ms
coming.
The subject of the lecture Sunday
afternoon will be, "Stopping Stones
in Christian Science."
