Mrs. Eisenhower apparently dis-
likes motorcycles and sirens. When
she and the President attended the
congressional club reception this
week, their procession from -the
White House consisted only of
their own limousine and a secret
service follow-up car.
Consequently, they had to slop
for numerous stop lights.
In previous trips about town, Mr.
Eisenhower was accompanied by
a motorcycle escort.
Mrs. Truman had a similar dis-
like for motorcycles, and most of
her auto trips were without noisy
escort. .

Republican knives are being
whetted for a federal official once
a big name in the Truman admin-
iatration. After the ejection he co-
operated unstintingly in preparing
for the trahsfer of government.
Impressed incoming Republi-
cans arranged for the Democrat to
continue in a government job.
The Democrat then took a vaca-
tion. While on his holiday, he was
interviewed by a small local news-
paper and he spouted unrestrain-
edly, apparently seeing no chance
for his remarks to , get .back to the
capital. He said among other
things that President Eisenhower
was a demagogue. But as luck or
misfortune would have it, a friend
of the new administration spotted
the interview and passed it on to
Washington.
The Democrat, meantime, is
back on the job, apparently un-
aware that his interview preceded
Mm. His future is quite limited.

Poliee Chief O. C. Beard said

The country clubs’ want the Ei-
senhower policy maker on mer-
bership rolls for prestige purposes.
And many individual club mem-
bers want the opportunity to chat
with this cabinet member and that
agency head on a social basis that
just might have business advan-
tages later. •
One club definitely is not in the
administration sweepstakes, if for
no other reason than it already has
the prize. This is Burning Tree,
the highly exclusive, all-male golf
club where the President, himself,
is a member and where he played
his first round of golf as chief ex-
ecutive.
