Boerne Independent School
District trustees revived prospects
for a bond election Monday night,
while instructing Superintendent
Joe Doenges and his staff to develop
cost estimates for “short term”
improvements on the Fabra
Elementary School campus.
The trustees voted unanimously
to direct Dr. Doenges to proceed
with planning and cost estimates for
permanent improvements at Fabra
and additions and improvements on
the Boerne High School campus, to
be financed with a proposed bond
issue.
The action came after Patrick
Anderson, president of the newly-
organized Fabra Parent-Teacher
Organization, spoke on behalf of
“immediate needs” on the campus,
which houses kindergarten and first
grade classes.
Anderson asked the trustees to
consider covered walkways
between buildings, construction of a
better bridge over a drainage ditch
on the property, installation of
shades in the classrooms, installa-
tion of more bookshelves and filing
cabinets and other improvements.
He also asked for consideration of
replacing or repairing “noisy”
heaters and air conditioners.
Trustee Corky Corcoran who,
with Trustee Pam Plunkett, had
met with the Fabra PTO earlier,
also suggested coverting a janitor’s
closet into a restroom for teachers.
Dr. Doenges was instructed to
develop cost estimates for the
recommended projects and to
report back to the board next
month.
Anderson said the Fabra PTO
would help with providing more
playground equipment on the
campus, if permitted, and said his
organization hoped to support a
bond issue for permanent Fabra
